what are his stats and other schools applied to?

@blueeyes1997‌ All deferred students are rolled into the Regular Decision pool and reviewed as such; this is done so we avoid treating deferred students with an unintentional advantage or disadvantage. As a result, we have no data on deferred students who are eventually admitted.

For those of you asking about chances of getting in after being deferred, I saw BC replied specifically about BC’s policy. I read somewhere that IN GENERAL not specific to any school that once deferred you have about a 10% chance of getting in regular decision. Every school is different and like admissions said it might be impossible to track on the school’s end at least because they just roll the kids into RD. So any stats that would be meaningful on this would likely have to come from surveying students themselves. Not sure if such surveys exist, but maybe.

Some schools are pretty upfront about it being more difficult EA…for example, Villanova says right on their website that their stats for accepted EA kids are more competitive and imply that unless you think you are one of the more competitive candidates, you might be better off RD. In my daughter’s high school it seems as though most of our Villanova students get in RD (last year 1 got in EA and 9 got in RD). But can’t see a pattern with BC and my guess is it varies year to year.

As it relates to sending in supplemental information, I agree with what has been posted that anything sent should be meaningful and new, not redundant with what is on the app. With that said, whenever my daughter called to ask about sending supplemental information the admissions office always made her feel very comfortable sending whatever she wanted to and said everything would be put in her file. She sent a resume (which allowed her to get into more detail than the common app did) and a newspaper clipping that featured her community service project. If your scores were borderline, it might not hurt to test again and send that…but make sure you check with the school to make sure they will accept a Jan. or Feb. test.

Good luck!

That has been historically true at BC as well. Besides pure numbers (GPA+test scores), the supplemental essay now comes into play. Someone with excellent numbers for BC, but a so-so supplemental essay will likely be deferred. In essence, the supplemental serves several purposes, one of which is real interest and understanding of a Jesuit education. (Y’all would be surprised at how many applicants blow off the supplement by scribbling ‘stuff’ at the last minute.)

@bluebayou‌ That makes sense…I honestly think my daughter’s BC supplement was her best essay. And likely, to your point, because it is her first choice school. I do think that sometimes the schools can pick up on things like that through the essay. And BC is very clear about how they view their applicants holistically and the essay would definitely be a part of that.

As a current BC student, I can honestly say you guys are all over thinking the BC admission process. I was accepted early with an 1800 SAT and 3.8 GPA in high school. At Boston College, your stats don’t matter nearly as much relative to other schools. BC harps on the Jesuit idea of being a whole person, not doing well on standardized tests and such. If you were a well rounded person in high school with decent-at-best “stats” (as you guys refer to it as), you will most certainly be a viable candidate in the BC admission office. Don’t overthink, don’t stress too much, it’s much simpler than you think. I wish you all the best of luck and hope I can see you all around campus next year.

@writeallnight‌ I was accepted to MSB at GU and deferred from CSOM at BC

Thanks @collegemomjam‌ ! I’m looking forward to starting at GU in 2019!

question you guys, i know this is late but im 100% sure i got rejected now because my supplemental essay for the works of art prompt did not really incorporate me helping society… it was more about me  … what did you guys do?

ugh im such an idiot. i knew that they wanted those type of people who want to make an impact on society. i have no idea why i didnt include that.

My supplemental essay about the work of art barely included helping society (if at all) and I still got in so don’t worry!

Is a 3.6 UW and 31 ACT too low for BC CAS?

@llegeAcceptanc‌ the essay prompt was: Many human beings throughout history have found inspiration and joy in literature and works of art. Is there a book, play, poem, movie, painting, music selection, or photograph that has been especially meaningful for you?

This doesn’t say anything about having to help socicety. If anything it asks why it is meaningful to you and I think thats what admissions is trying to learn. More about you. I dont really understand where helping society came from

Ok. Made me feel better lol. thank you so much guys.

boston college is based of f ajesuit education which is big about making an impact in the world. and I also i saw how people they applied that essay prompt to like helping society. so it sort of made me nervous that i didnt write enough about the college’s goal.

@llegeAcceptanc‌ yea dont worry.

May i ask what ur stats, gender, ethnicity, etc are
