Congrats!! My stats aren’t super great…
GPA- 3.3
ACT- 28
Extra curriculars- German honor society, varsity track for 3 years, I work, and I volunteer at my hospital with 100+.
I don’t remember my first choice of a major, but my second one was biochemistry. UC is my first choice…
I got accepted to Miami, IU, OU, Kent State, but got denied at OSU.
Karim, I imagine it might be different from year to year, but last year my son heard about scholarships in mid-March. If you have the ability, be sure to visit during the revisit days prior to May 1.
aoaoaok – your choices of majors would be listed on your Common App submission (you can still get those on the Common App site). Major choice is everything, since so many majors are very popular, hence very competitive. But also consider that if you get in on one CAS major, you can probably easily switch to any other CAS major after you enroll, and even after you’ve taken a few courses. But you’d probably want to settle in on a major by the end of your second year – your academic advisor will help with all that.
I’m was accepted into their architecture program with a 3.41 weighted (a-g courses only) 27 ACT Good essays and a good recommendation letter and I went to a rigorous college prep high school. A couple extra curricular as well. Very excited as UC is my #2 choice
Good luck everyone! @guyk27 Thanks for the information!
I got accepted yesterday for biochem!
Our son found out this evening he was accepted into the Mechanical Engineering program, his first choice. Hope everyone else who is waiting hears soon!
@hipster54 That’s awesome! Any scholarships information?
Thanks, Karim - congratulations on getting into Aerospace! Our son has kind of a lopsided profile - good scores, ok GPA, not a lot of extracurriculars. I have no idea what his chances at a scholarship are, but I’m assuming they’re low. Those offers aren’t announced till March, right?
Last year, as I recall, it was mid-march. Honors program invitations came out a little earlier.
I was accepted yesterday into biomedical engineering with a 28 ACT and a 4.2 gpa with a boatload of e.c’s
Our son was accepted into the industrial design program. Notified via UC’s Check My Status today! Excited for him!
Our son too!!! Just found out on the website. We are so happy for him!
When did your son apply?
@msw1237 did your son get into Industrial Design too? When did he apply?
Yes. Just found out today on the website. Very excited!
He applied on 11/19.
Just received communication that I got admitted to Industrial Design. feeling Good about it. However, with search on internet, finding that UC campus is very unsafe. Can somebody who is attending DAAP comment on the safety issue. Also appreciate if you can let me know the Closest residence hall to DAAP. If ignoring the proximity requirement to DAAP, which is the best residence for a DAAP Girl
First, congratulations on your acceptance. My daughter is in DAAP’s Interior Design program. I’m not sure where you’re searching on the internet, but while no place is perfectly safe, the UC campus is one of the more safe places that you can find yourself at. My daughter never felt unsafe, or threatened in any way while on campus, even late at night after working to finish projects at DAAP and then walking back to the dorms. The closest dorm on the campus proper to DAAP would be both Morgens and the newly rehabbed Scioto, however those dorms are mostly inhabited by upperclassmen. Entering freshman usually request the DAAP floors in Daniels hall, which is mainly quads, with just a few doubles/singles. Quads are good for meeting new students, and that’s usually the case, however, occasionally you can have a roommate that just is not ideal. @DAAPmom can tell you more about her daughter’s experience. My daughter never really had any problems when she stayed her freshman year at Daniels, except for the occasional disagreement here and there. Other typical “Freshman” dorms on the Uptown campus proper are Calhoun and Sidell.
Given DAAP’s location in the northwest corner of the campus, and the location of the campus-proper dorms on the east and southern edges of campus, you’ll have between a 5-10 minute walk to DAAP. That’s pretty much from any dorm. That includes Stratford Heights which, being across a relatively busy Clifton Ave, is not on what I’m calling the campus-proper, but, depending on which residence building that you’re in, you might just be slightly closer to DAAP than even Morgens Hall. The dorm-areas are heavily patrolled, but wherever you are within a mile of campus, there is always the campus shuttle service, and the “Nightride” pickup service available for you to use.
Overall, on campus, I’d say there is absolutely nothing to worry about as long as you stay smart, meaning travel in a group at night, if possible, and be aware of your surroundings (meaning stay off your smartphone). When you’re off campus, as in any larger city, there are good and bad areas. If you need to travel off the campus proper, it’ll usually be to the UC campus strip on Calhoun/McMillan on the south side of campus. If you need/want to go elsewhere, go during the daylight hours, and you’ll likely have no problems at all. At night, anywhere off campus, walking alone is to be avoided, if possible. But that advice goes for any campus, not just UC.
You’re embarking on an exciting part of your life. Stay focused, work hard, and enjoy the ride.
