Class of 2020 RD Dicussion

Waitlisted at Emory, Accepted at Oxford - definitely not attending either
SAT: 2200 (ACT 34, took in February so didn’t send)
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.63 W at selective, competitive magnet school
SAT II: 740 Lit, 740 Math II, 730 US history
147 hours of comm. service, part-time job, sport outside of school, good essays
Honestly really disappointed as I was also waitlisted at Georgetown and deferred-rejected at Duke. Guess I’ll end up at William and Mary as a Monroe Scholar! Congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to all others!

Accepted emory ACT 35 GPA 3.95
How would I know whether I got merit aid?

Reject from both, which doesn’t surprise me after getting waitlisted from Wake, but I guess them’s the breaks.

UW GPA: 3.4
ACT: 33 (36R 35E 31M 30S 11W)
Very good extracurriculars, particularly for Emory’s debate team
Essay was ok, I don’t think it probably stacked up too well compared to others because I rushed it and didn’t think about it long enough.
Recommendations were decent as well I imagine, but nothing earth shattering.

Ultimately, to anyone reading this thinking about applying or worried about it in the future: you need to have a good gpa. I learned this the hard way after getting a D in AP Chem and devoting too much time in my extracurriculars and not enough time working at grades when all the rejections started piling up. My GPA crippled me everywhere I applied, even though my scores are on the higher end especially for my major. DO NOT FOOL YOURSELF, high scores will not save you if you have below a 3.7.

I’m a little crushed cause emory/oxford was my dream school tbh, but I sort of expected it to happen at this point. The college admissions season has been the most brutal life lesson about myself I’ve ever had to go through.

Waitlisted at Emory and accepted to Oxford! SAT 2240 GPA 3.85

Accepted to Emory!! Didn’t apply to Oxford
Really takes the burn out of getting rejected from UNC. BUT I DON’T EVEN CARE SINCE EMORY WAS ONE OF MY TOP CHOICES ALONG WITH NYU

Does anyone know if you are waitlisted and get off the waitlist if you can still get merit aid?

Accepted!! Does anyone know when/how we see financial aid or when that will be available?

Also, to all admitted, (Especially to Oxford), Come JOIN the Facebook Oxford group!

Aye joining the waitlisted at Emory accepted at Oxford group (there seems to be few others with the same results)! Off to learn a bit more about Oxford, though ill probably join the waitlist and then enroll at richmond

Accepted to both Emory and Oxford! 34 ACT, 2180 SAT, 4.3 GPA

@GraceMarie88 I’m pretty sure Friday

accepted to both emory and oxford!! SAT:2170, 4.2GPA, really good EC. most likely going to enroll unless accepted to ivy league tomorrow

Accepted to Oxford and Emory! ACT: 29 SAT:1590 GPA: 4.3

Rejected by UNC, Emory, and Oxford on the same day…one of the worst times of my life

For financial aid: “Families with a complete file can expect their online award beginning April 1 via their OPUS account. We encourage you to check your OPUS “To Do List” to see if any items are missing.”

ACCEPTED!!! Feels great after 5 waitlists last week!

I’m not trying to minimize anyone’s accomplishments but I was accepted at better schools and Emory is not even that competitive so I find it interesting that they waitlisted me. Do they have regional or racial quotas? Because I know dumb people from around where I live, and they were accepted and some people on this thread said they were accepted but they have horrible test scores and gpas… And yes I know test scores aren’t everything but lol a 29 or 30… Since when did Emory start taking state school rejects…

Accepted to both campuses
SAT I: 2390 GPA: 4.3
SAT II: Math2- 800, Chem-780, BioM-790, US History-750
EC’s- AIME, published papers to APS and presented at the Mid-Atlantic APS conference, lab experience, football, fencing, won a few math competitions, volunteer at hosp, and other stuff that do not come to mind.

Glad I got in, I was worried because I was barely in the top 10% of my class of 300 with my low GPA.

Can someone answer the question about Merit aid? Was that info on the portal or is coming in a separate letter later? Wondering about merit for my daughter accepted to Oxford…

@chemmchimney I believe it comes on April 1st
