@ohio101 essays and extracurriculars are also taken into consideration so just because you have a high GPA/standardized test scores doesn’t mean you’re automatically in which is how it works at other institutions that are at Emory’s level or above
@ohio101 Every school has some sort of racial quota, whether they’ll admit it or not. Regional quota I’m uncertain about, but to a certain extent I’d expect so. Emory is no exception and neither are any of the schools that you applied to. That’s how I felt about my rejection from UNC. However, just because someone has a 29 or a 30 doesn’t mean they’re a “state school reject”. I feel as if that last part was a bit offensive and unnecessary. Emory won’t accept anyone just because they’re trying to enlist more URMs or anything. Everyone who got into Emory has every right to be there. Don’t call them rejects based on the parts that you can see of their resume.
accepted to both, 35 act 4.0 gpa. Congrats to everyone!!!
@ohio101 (Comment 416) Really? There must be regional or racial quotas because you were not accepted? Just accept that there were a lot of qualified applicants and they admissions staff did not perceive you were one of the best fits. If you rolled out those comments verbally on campus, you probably would not be a fit. Emory is a top school, has been highly regarding for many decades and you seem to want to disparage the school because you were not accepted. So it seems they did you a favor by allowing you to attend a school for which your beliefs are more consistent with the staff. Good luck and I hope you land somewhere where it is obvious to you that you were not accepted due to regional or racial or even gender quotas.
@ohio101 i’m really sorry you were waitlisted but i think it’s a little rude to say “since when did emory start taking state school rejects.” Emory’s average ACT range for accepted students is 30-34, so it’s really not that incomprehensible that someone with a 29 or a 30 is accepted. Emory has holistic review, as do most selective schools. Take the waitlist verdict as a sign that Emory just wasn’t meant to be, and I hope you find success elsewhere
Got accepted!!!
Sorry if I offended everyone… Didn’t realize everyone is so emotional…
accepted! 32 act. so happy!
@ohio101 , that’s awfully rude of you to put down not only the students who were accepted to Emory, but also the school itself. As a fellow waitlisted candidate, I also struggle to see why Emory didn’t accept me, but I don’t doubt that the admissions office had their reasons. Same goes for those who were accepted. They were accepted for a reason.
Accepted! So excited; I’ll prob visit over spring break

4.5 GPA W, 34 ACT, 2300 SAT
Prayers for those who got waitlisted/rejected from oxford or emory, hope you all find the right college. And congrats to the rest
I understand what you’re saying @ohio101 but you could’ve said it in a different way. I’m in the same boat as you and I’m struggling to understand why I was waitlisted when I got accepted into better schools but I’m sure they had their reasons. Congratulations to everyone who got in!
Accepted from MA!
3.8 UW 4.76/5 W
2280 SAT (800 CR, 740 M, 740 W)
Also for people who are asking about financial aid, it will be on OPUS by 6 pm EDT on Friday 4/1
SAME @Iamtrentondooney it feels weird to be accepted here and wait listed there…
Daughter accepted & we are SO GLAD! It’s all a crapshoot. Who knows how it all works. Schools try to build each grade year with a team of kids who will be diverse but seemingly support each other. Applying RD is always a risk. She applied to 7 & was accepted to 4. Scores were exceptional (ACT = 36, SAT = CR800, MA770, WR690 but UW GPA 3.25). Legacy. NMF. That all being said, if she hadn’t gotten in - then a better option was waiting for her…and she might still take that other option… She was rejected by the two schools that she had hoped for. I believe that it will all work out for the best.
Current Emory freshman here, just want to say congrats to everyone who was accepted. Also, if you weren’t accepted and/or were waitlisted, I wish you all the best of luck- you will do great–I know how it feels I applied to like 10 schools, was only accepted at 2 and was waitlisted at 3 of my top choices. Also know that Emory RD is crazy competitive versus ED (which almost half of our students come from).
