@beaglee105 @diver575 That is the prospective student portal. The portal everyone is talking about is different. If you Google “American University Portal”, you should find the right one and (hopefully) be able to make an account
Also, I was able to access mine and I received a Presidential Scholarship. How much do Honors kids receive?
I clicked on my major and it says bach.uspa- Undeclared SPA. Does this mean that I didn’t receive my major cause i applied to political science.
When you went to the American University Portal did you than click on the link create a account? I tried by putting in his au id and than the last four digits of his ssn and we could not create a account. I hope this does not mean he did not get accepted.
For those who have not been following this thread and just started reading…
@beaglee105 @diver575
It seems that for the past few years, some have been able to get a “hint” and find out whether they have been accepted before the official notifications by AU. So obviously these are “hints” and nothing official. If you choose to view, please don’t call Admissions and complain (or ask questions). Otherwise they may close this option/loophole to future students, esp. if they are getting many calls and alerts.
Here is how to find out:
Look at each post # in this thread to get instructions.

Well turns out I applied undeclared SPA. How easy is it to change to Political Science, or am i going to have to waste time and money paying for a bunch of classes that I don’t actually have any interest in.
So do the acceptances come out in waves on the portal or all at once. If I cannot create an account today , might I be able to do so tomorrow? Or do you think all decisions are already made?
Try putting his birthdate instead of ssn and see if that works (you have either option). I also ran into that same problem with my D’s ssn. It gave me an error and then I tried the birthdate instead and it worked!
I tried both and I got nothing!! We are all stressing out at my house. My daughter just graduated from AU and that is h is top choice
I know others have said that some who couldn’t create accounts also got accepted. So it is not set in stone.
Maybe in a few minutes, try clearing cookies and history data, and try again this time with birthdate.
Keeping fingers crossed for you all.
@QuirkyClarkie @aballard2020 Honors students receive $30,000/year.
According to my portal, I received a Dean’s Scholarship, worth $12,000/year.
Dean’s scholarships seem to vary - DD got one worth $15k according to her portal. That would normally think these would be more set in stone but I guess not. But that might mean there is room to negotiate a bit as FA department not completely contrained in how much they give you.
@beaglee105 I can see my major as well
@Apples1789302 My major also said undeclared, but it also had SOC written in it which is the school of communications, which I applied to. I applied as a journalism major, not undeclared so maybe they haven’t figured out the majors yet?
I applied to the Honors program, but the scholarship doesn’t appear on my student portal. Should I assume I was not accepted into the Honors program?
Is the portal just for admitted, not enrolling students? Like signing up won’t make me have any commitment to going, right?
@EleveS, @gonewiththeair & others, S also applied Honors and not seeing anything about that, but do see Presidential scholarship. Let’s keep fingers crossed that doesn’t mean no Honors!
someone can correct me if i’m wrong, but i think the presidential scholarship is what you get when you get into honors!
@september901, really? Hmm, no, I just looked at Honors and it says, “Each enrolled student as of Fall 2016 will receive a $20,000 AU merit award and a $10,000 Honors scholarship every year. The scholarship is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, provided students satisfy academic performance and program requirements.” So kinda makes me think if we’re seeing a $10,000 Presidential merit that he did not get the Honors’ $20,000 merit. Who knows, though. Maybe they stack, like coupons!
Looks like the Honors awards are different this year because elsewhere it says, “First-year students entering the Honors Program in 2016 receive a guaranteed $30,000 undergraduate merit award each year.”
