Class of 2020 RD

accepted today!
3.45UW/3.47W
25 ACT
majoring in film
in my acceptance letter, they noted how much i was involved with my school’s drama club & how i had a passion for theater arts

well, i have not recieved any mail, and no emails for any admitted students events. guess im rejected. congrats to everyone and i wish you all the best with your college decisions!!

Got my acceptance letter in the mail today with a $17,000 presidential scholarship! Also invited to AU Scholars.

GPA: 95.6/100 UW, 98.9 W
ACT: 35
8 AP exams with an additional 5 classes this year
VP of drama club, editor of school magazine, fin. dir. of Young Dems, lots of participation in theatre at school and elsewhere
Great recs, good essays (apparently my Common App essay was “insightful”)
Lots of demonstrated interest: attended a preview day, applied to honors, auditioned for MT program
Intended major: Musical Theatre (accepted to Theatre Performance, which I guess means not MT? If I go, I guess I’ll just have to re-audition?)

AU is my top choice, now it’s just going to come down to coming up with the difference in COA.

i got my acceptance package yesterday!

@missandei Hi! I was chosen for that program too; do you know how they pick?

@ctgirl1001 I’m not quite sure tbh! After browsing a bit I believe they do this so that when people leave campus and there is room for Spring, the mentorship students can move onto campus. Also, are you from Connecticut? If so, me too! (Lookin at your username)

I’m on spring break and won’t be able to see my mail for at least another week! Will there be any other way to find out if I’ve been accepted?

@missandei makes sense and yes i am !!

I was accepted! From LI applied test optional 90/100 UW 93/100 weighted. Mostly ap’s and college courses. Vp of yearbook club on the nhs board cheerleading etc. Does anyone know if there’s a groupme or Facebook page? Also is anyone going to accepted students overnight?

Yes, we are in LA and acceptance came yesterday. Good luck!

I got accepted spring semester and to the mentorship program, which seems to basically mean nothing.
29 ACT, 3.8 UW GPA, wrote the optional essays and visited. I got accepted to better schools with better money so I’m definitely not going.

I hope AU Admissions is reading this thread so they will see all of the awesome students they are missing out on because of the lack of scholarship/grant/aid. The scary thing is…even if you received any of those your first year AU is known for lowering the amount or just taking the amount away the next year. The young lady who had to set up a “Go-Fund-Me” page to cover her last year at AU was crazy!

Accepted with 30k(ish) in grant money, Honestly still confused how I got in…26 ACT and 3.7W GPA. They were so nice in the letter though, saying that my love for my chosen major was “awe-inspiring”. Comparing it against my other schools, If financial aid ends up being enough, I would love to attend seeing that it is an amazing school.

I am not new to the college process since this post is about my D who is our 3rd to go to school. However, I am hoping that someone can provide me any information on the financial packages that AU offers. Particularly, how much is the aid front-loaded during freshman year? My D has been offered admission for the fall and the financial aid is very generous, but I am concerned that a drop in aid in subsequent years may put her future education in jeopardy. Any information or reply would be appreciated.

@gotthis , if you look thru this thread a bit you will see that AU is somewhat notorious for front loading FA - my daughter is a sophomore there and that’s what I’ve heard from her plus what I’ve read on CC. Still I’m assuming this can’t happen every time or half the class would leave each year and that doesn’t happen, so I’d try a frank call with FA and see what they say. My D loves the school but we were lucky in that she got a great scholarship that allows us not to have to deal with this so far.

@Gotthis1 Like your daughter, I have been offered very generous financial aid. I contacted the financial aid office with the same exact question and they said that the grant money that I received would remain the same over the next few years - minus the increases in loan eligibility - as long as the need is the same.

Whether this is true or not… I’m not sure. Are you attending the freshman day? I plan on scheduling an appointment with the fin aid office and you should probably do the same - also, if your daughter is doing an overnight, have her ask her host along with any other students about their financial aid experience.

I asked this question in another thread but wanted to ask here too…is everyone attending all of the events this spring and summer? There’s an overnight in April, then Freshman day, Eagle Summit and Welcome Week. I’m excited to learn all I can about AU but wonder if there will be a lot of repetitive information or if each event is unique.

4.0 GPA, 31 ACT, and great EC’s but waitlisted.

Financial Aid at AU is not “front loaded” but need-based financial aid packages can change on the basis of changes in family circumstances. For instance, if more than one child is in college the Expected Family Contribution, on which aid packages are based, is divided among more than one sibling and more need-based aid is offered. When that older sibling graduates, leaving only one child remaining in college, all of that Expected Family Contribution is available to support that student as those additional resources are now available. Or if a parent has an increase in income, for instance, that is a change that can lead to a decrease in need-based financial aid. Similarly loss of income could result in an increase in financial aid. Financial aid is something that students must apply for annually as circumstances can change from year to year. Assuming no changes in the family’s situation, a student can expect to receive similar levels of financial support each year. Remember that aid is federally regulated and that all institutions require that students apply for aid annually and all institutions will make adjustments based on changes in family circumstances. Families that have questions should not hesitate to reach out to financial aid officers at the colleges they are considering. They are best able to address questions/concerns.

S just got in for the spring 2017 and/or mentorship program for fall 2016. No scholarships that i can see so far. He had 3.6 gpa and 32 ACT
