Class of 2021 (Discussing application season, sharing, venting)

@anitapitamom @bfahopeful @CMB625 @marg928 Thank you all! I am very excited about it. It feels like a good fit to me! It is almost crazy to think that I almost didn’t go to the audition!

It was meant to be @WhiteRaven1!

So I just received a callback at Rutgers. Now the hard part… deciding what to do! Did anyone else get a callback at both UMinn and Rutgers? Minnesota is definitely my first choice, so my question is, is it worth jeopardizing my chances of acceptance by leaving a day early to go to the Rutgers callback?

Congrats @Isaroo you’re on a roll! Was it an email? Personally I can’t imagine you’ll jeopardize your chances at U Minn by leaving early. You owe it to yourself to do both IMHO.

Congrats @Isaroo
Guthrie allows video submission if you cant make callbacks. You could also email them and simply say you are available for the first day(s) but due to a conflict have to leave early and ask if that is acceptable. Explain how much you want to be there if at all possible.

Last year the actual audition was Saturday. I think Sunday morning was a workshop and maybe additional auditions if they wanted to see you again (which appeared to be no indicator as to who was accepted or not). It may be completely doable. Good luck and congrats!

@bfahopeful Guthrie’s email said that they are aware of the Rutgers conflict and are trying to make it work so it would be doable.

That is awesome!

Great news! Congrats!

Thanks everyone! And yes, I got an email early this evening. I think I’m probably going to go to the beginning of Minnesota’s callback and then fly directly to Newark to catch the last part of the Rutgers callback.
I really respected the fact that U Minn went out of their way to make it possible for people to go to both. Rutgers didn’t even mention the U Minn callback in their email and made it seem like their arrival and end times were very strict. I just wish they wouldn’t put us in this position of having to choose.

Does anyone know anything about Cal Poly SLO for Theatre? My D was admitted today. Fantastic school, highly selective AND affordable school, I just don’t know too much about the theatre department.

@anitapitamom congrats to your D!

@Isaroo - Congrats! What was your audition date for Rutgers?

January 28th

@Isaroo when my D auditioned for U Minn on 1/29 I mentioned the conflict to the student who was working the checkins. It was the first he had heard about it. Maybe that’s how Joe Price even learned there was a conflict. I guess there’s a chance Rutgers has no idea. Then again maybe they don’t care lol. I swear my D subconsciously sabotaged that Rutgers audition! It was the only one she didn’t feel good about. I made her apply there but she has zero desire to stay in state and even less desire to run into people she knows from home all the time! But she knew it would be hard to pass up if she were accepted because the program is so good. Oh well she got her way it seems! Maybe you two can meet up in the Twin Cities!

LUI today and Molloy/CAP21 tomorrow. D is feeling good and a just little nervous.

BAL everyone! [-O<

I’m reading posts about callbacks and have question – Are these callbacks completely different days? So you audition one weekend and could possibly have to travel back for a callback?

@daughtersdreams Yes!

@daughtersdreams - Rutgers, Minn Guthrie, and Juilliard all have callback “weekends” where the final group is invited to work more closely with the faculty etc. yes, it is an extra trip. I suppose if you are accepted, it might eliminate the need for an accepted student visit…

@daughtersdreams The Minn Guthrie program callback sounded like it is a very enjoyable weekend for the kids fortunate enough to be called back. However, when I called to ask if it is mandatory, since my daughter’s school musical is that weekend, I was assured that it isn’t mandatory. In fact, they said they offer the option to try to craft a similar experience on a more convenient weekend for kids who can’t make it but who want to visit. (Of course, those visits would not necessarily be an ensemble-building opportunity, which I think might be part of the goal of callback weekend.) I believe they also offer the option to send a video of your monologues if it is too much to make that trip.

(Bummed my daughter wasn’t called back, but they can’t call everyone!)

@LuvsLabs My D did a video submission for Guthrie c/b weekend (she was in a show that weekend as well). She was admitted (initially waitlisted, then admitted) from her video submission so it DOES happen. In fact, she was told it happens just about every year.

She flew our after she got on the waitlist and spent a day + sitting in on classes and meeting with the administration and current students. She absolutely loved the program and the experience.
