@artskids what made her decide against going there?
My D just got an acceptance to the BA Theater at SUNY Purchase. It was disappointing to get rejected from the BFA but she really liked the school itself so this isn’t a bad option to have close to NYC…
@marg928 she got into her first choice (SUNY Purchase). It was not an easy decision but she was very fortunate to have great choices.
@marg928 Congratulations to your D on another acceptance! Just curious: How did she receive the news of the SUNY Purchase BFA rejection? Mail, email, or admissions portal? My D also recently got an acceptance to the BA at Purchase but hasn’t heard anything about the BFA there yet.
Congrats @marg928 They are selective for their BA at purchase too. Not everyone gets in. And they may have seen what you have been saying -that a BA would be a better fit with her schedule. This is good news!!!
It’s been a tough week. No call back for Guthrie or Mason Gross and now a letter from UNCSA encouraging him to audition again [next year] . He doesn’t know about the last one yet, it had become his top choice after visiting. He still has Emerson which is a great choice but I am not
@ANJALU he got a letter from UNCSA that very few get. They obviously really liked him but have limited spots. He may not choose to audition again next year but he should feel proud he got that letter and that they recognize his talent.
Hang in there @ANJALU, you only need one.
looking forward to giving the news…
he walked in as I was typing. He took it pretty well! I am reminding myself of my own mantra “they really do wind up where they should be”
@bfahopeful he got a letter from UNCSA that very few get? I thought it was a standard rejection letter. Thank you for that I will be sure to tell him.
Does anyone know the ratio of MT students to straight acting students for UNCSA? Does it vary from year to year?
UNCSA as I understand it isn’t an MT school per se. They have a vocal performance major and a drama major. They do perform musicals.
UNCSA is a drama program. They don’t have an MT major. That said, students take dance and voice regularly and they also put on musicals. There is a dedicated musical theater dance teacher and voice teachers too. Many “MT” kids are in the program as are those who don’t have a background in MT. They take about 28 total (including 2 directing students who go through the first two years with the actors) but it does vary a bit year to year. Some classes are just over 20 and others are 26-28.
And yes @ANJALU it is my understanding that there are a few kids who get asked to audition again but not everyone. At least that was the word in the last year or so. Could have changed I suppose. But I think it speaks highly of him.
The drama students do take dance and voice.
Oops–I see @bfahopeful already explained it!
@Janine1 My D auditioned for Purchase on 1/29 and got a letter in the mail dated 2/3. It basically said they were regretfully not able to admit her to BFA Acting and that some students decide to take a gap year and apply again or transfer in and that they would be happy to review her application for a future semester…they also mention that they select those students who in their application demonstrated the greatest likelihood to succeed in their distinct learning environment and not to consider it an assessment of ability.
@ANJALU when did your S audition for UNCSA? My D hasn’t heard anything yet and auditioned on 1/29.
@marg928 He attended an on-campus audition January 14th. Got the letter today but website remains unchanged.
@marg928 Congrats to your talented daughter! Don’t get hung up on the letters in the degree. Great training is great training no matter how you spell it!
