@Isaroo Have you been able to make arrangements to attend both the Rutgers and the Guthrie call backs? I know Joe Price is being very accommodating about the conflict, and I’m curious abt whether Kevin Kittle is too? I hope you can do both!
Congrats to everyone getting acceptances!
I emailed Rutgers on Thursday asking if I could arrive a few hours late (the only way it would be possible) and they still haven’t responded. As it is right now, I would miss the last day of the Minnesota callback and most of the first day of Rutgers.
@marlil74 Thank you!
@Isaroo this is complicated for you. While in my opinion you should try to do both, on the other hand doing both will prevent you from getting the full experience at either school. If UMinn is much higher on your list than Rutgers maybe you need to choose…but also factoring in whatever other acceptances you already have in your pocket. What do your parents think?
I agree with you @marg928. I have a Junior D and have been more of a watcher and appreciating all the families journey’s but there should be a way not to truncate the experience. These are great programs and call backs and the kids need a real feel and a real chance. Perhaps a choice is involved. Whatever you do, I am choosing to believe all here who assure us that our kids will find there way : /
Does anyone know if SUNY Purchase did video recordings again this year for some students during auditions? My D did not get recorded during her audition with them, and she’s wondering if that’s a bad sign.
@marg928 -
My S was accepted into the Theater BA at Purchase, which was his second choice. He is a theater tech kid but he has not yet finished reading the play required for the tech interview so I don’t know if he will actually finish applying to the BFA in theater tech and production. He is neither accepted nor rejected to that program. I doubt he will attend for the theater BA since he has zero interest in being onstage.
He is going forward with the tech interview at SUNY Fredonia. Has your D applied there? My S was given a $2k/year scholarship and accepted into the Honors Program contingent on his being accepted to the BFA.
No @techmom99 that school wasn’t on the radar at all. If we lived in NY I’m sure I would have looked into all the SUNY schools. My D really wants to be on the west coast anyway.
@marg928 I figure, if by some miracle I got into UNCSA this week, I would only attend U Minn’s callback (UNCSA did say end of February, right?) I haven’t been accepted anywhere yet, as my backups are liberal arts colleges. So right now, I don’t think I can afford to give up the opportunity to go to Rutgers’ callback weekend!
I don’t know the answer to this question but wondering if you don’t commit to either audition fully if that will hurt your chances at both schools.
@isaroo and anyone else with the callback conflict: You should definitely DEFINITELY let the schools know that you were invited to and want to attend both and ask their advice for how best to work it out, what day/time is most important to attend, etc. Most kids at these schools will end up with at least 2-3 top acceptances they will have to choose between and the schools are VERY well aware of that. (Full disclosure - my kid is at Rutgers, loves it, and it is an AMAZING program. Can’t say enough good things about the MG and London programs, and acting faculty at both.) All at the call back were choosing between Rutgers, Guthrie, Juilliard, Purchase, etc. Congrats and good luck!
My D got a callback to UMN Guthrie! She also got her first rejection…no callback at Rutgers. @ANJALU, I’m curious, how did you all hear abt the Rutgers rejection? My D didn’t get any correspondence from them about the callback one way or the other. She just checked the admissions portal and saw on Wednesday that her status has been changed to “Not Admitted”.
Just left American U and we are officially done! I made her go and it ended up being worthwhile I think. She enjoyed the audition…the auditors were very complimentary. They told her she was very grounded in her Shakespeare and that she had a great voice (not singing). He said that she wasn’t enough in her body though so he made her do it over again while stacking the chairs that were in the room! She loved the exercise and she came out feeling very positive and glad she went. Now we will enjoy the rest of this spring like weekend in DC!
@bromquest the Guthrie email was very helpful in making suggestions to the students who had the Rutgers conflict.
They even gave an option to go to Rutgers first and then do Sun/Mon at Guthrie. Very nice of them!
@Janine1 congrats to your D! When I heard @Isaroo got a Rutgers call back I checked the portal and saw not admitted as well. However she did get an email later that day from Mason Gross saying that said to check the portal for a decision.
@Janine1 congrats to your D on the Guthrie callback. Great news
Just recieved my rejection from UNCSA too
:(. Sorry for the rejection!
@bfahopeful It was a long shot anyway! At least I found out sooner rather than later!
Great attitude @WhiteRaven1
You have some great acceptances already. Excited to read about the rest of your journey.
