Class of 2021 (Discussing application season, sharing, venting)

@marg928 Sorry to hear! Maybe you can talk to them? I was so excited to hear she got in!

@marg928 that’s disappointing, did they also include financial aide information?

CalArts give very little merit scholarship awards. If your d got anything that is a good thing! That being said the school is extremely expensive.

@Academystagemom we don’t qualify for any financial aid. My D got a Lillian Disney scholarship of $3500 a year. Thanks for that info @astute12 I guess I feel a little better LOL. It’s surprising that a school like Cornish which was practically going under a few years ago gave her $16K and a big name like CalArts gives so little.

What frustrates me is how some schools will reduce the performing arts scholarship amount if there is already considerable merit offered due to test scores! Like, why can’t the kid be whip smart AND a talented performer?

Does Pace offer a nice scholarship to most who apply ? D got accepted academically with a larger scholarship but waiting to hear back artistically for both acting BFA and Film,TV,VO. Does the scholarship offer give any indication of any pending decision? I’m guessing not but still trying to hold on to hope although we know it’s a long shot with all of these schools having limited space.

Some schools give less to each individual so that they can give to more students.

@WorkOfHeart17 Pace is known to give good merit money to all accepted academically. Not an indication of anything with the BFA as most people get the scholarship before auditioning.

Still have hope though! You have as good of a chance as anyone else.

@momof3nerdz I’m with you on that! I think private universities (especially ones that are “for profit”) are most likely to “balance” the aid package like that. Public universities seem to be more willing to keep the two categories of academic vs. artistic awards separate. It depends on the colleges budgeting approach and whether funds come from a “communal pot” or “departmental pots.” I tried to find some of this out before my D applied to certain schools, but they are not all willing to talk openly about this.

You can always use a colleges net price calc to try and determine the non-artistic aid. Ours have been pretty dead on so far

@WorkOfHeart17 Pace is very generous to everyone. My daughter got her scholarship offer of $21,500 back in December way before she auditioned. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Pace is extremely generous. My D got over a 120k scholarship last year- and then didn’t get into the BFA…that one hurt!

Speaking of Pace…I’ve only seen one post of a phone call acceptance yesterday. I figured today might be the day when they start rolling in for everyone but so far nothing…

@marg928 I suspect they called the student about Pace as they had been admitted to 3 programs and Pace wanted to know where to place the student In order to open a spot in the other two programs.

Pace offers spots for the exact number of openings they have. Then they have alternates for each accepted student and a waitlist.

Last year my D heard from both Guthrie and Pace in the same evening. It was late afternoon or early evening of a day mid week this week (week after Guthrie callbacks).

There were a couple of Pace acceptances yesterday from Twitter and Facebook, one BFA acting and one possibly MT but wasn’t specified. Congrats to those already accepted! The waiting it appears is tougher than we expected. 8->

@bfahopeful I was actually thinking that might have been the reason as well. My daughter did apply to two programs as well so either she got into none or one. If she had been accepted to both she probably would have gotten a call already. I know I am totally overthinking this LOL! I need to stop!!!

I’ve heard a couple of people mention that Company FB page but I’ve searched for it and can’t find it. Can someone post the link please?

it is for students only and one student needs to invite your D, or your D sends a request and gets approved to join. No parents allowed.

@bfahopeful I doubt she knows anyone on there to invite her. If anyone out there has a kid who’s in it please PM me and I’ll give you her FB name

My D applied to Pace in the beginning of December and got all of her supporting documents submitted by Dec. 18. She got a letter in January saying that her application was received and giving her a student ID#. The letter doesn’t say she’s been academically admitted however. Then in Feb and again yesterday, she has gotten emails with subject line that reads: “Complete Your Online Application” This has been freaking us out!

She emailed the admissions office in Feb and again yesterday to ask if there was problem and when she would hear about academic acceptance. She got an email response today that said her application is complete and is being reviewed and a decision will be sent once the process is complete.

We have no reason to think she won’t be academically admitted because she has a 4.0 and very good SAT scores, but I’m afraid that having a “pending” academic acceptance will delay hearing about the artistic acceptance.

I think Pace Theatre Dept. requires academic admittance BEFORE they can give an artistic offer.

Has anyone had any problems getting an academic decision from Pace?
