@toowonderful you are so right! The worst part about it is that we would like to visit the schools that she is admitted to but there’s not much time left from now to May1st! And if we end up having to take a trip to CA it would be nice to know that soon!
Yeah! It’s been a really great weekend for me too. I had my audition for DePaul today… really long (but awesome) process. Honestly, the hardest part for me has been the interviews. I sometimes have a hard time articulating answers to the questions… I had Minnesota yesterday and that was a super positive experience too.
Congrats @marg928. Amazing! How many more are left?
Congrats @Isaroo too!
@bfahopeful she has Carnegie Mellon on Wednesday and then next weekend Purchase, Rutgers and UNCSA. Then we go to DC for an on campus audition at American. Pace is at the end of February. Now I wish I had made it earlier! oh and I almost forgot USC on 2/5 in NY.
@marg928 My D heads back to Purchase today. She said the freshman are assigned to help at the consortium and on-campus auditions. She will get her assignment on Wednesday. She said it is so strange to be on “the other side”! BAL!!
You might get an early decision from one or two, but yeah, the waiting is awful.
I have to laugh…I follow a USC admissions thread and these people are completely nuts! I know I should unfollow it but I am curious. they keep asking the same questions over and over (I’m like…just scroll up and READ!) and they are soooo desperate to get in there and with a scholarship! It’s so unhealthy mentally LOL
I’m writing a post about my most recent audition experiences. Some quick updates- auditioned for Tx State on January 14th, was “released” on January 20th. This hit me pretty hard, especially because I received the rejection so soon and the day before unifieds. I auditioned for Otterbein, Point Park, and Roosevelt at unifieds; did a walk-in for the New School. Otterbein redirected me to the BA program on the 23rd (I auditioned the 21st). Didn’t receive a movement callback for Pace. Was asked to sing for Juilliard, no callback (none expected). Lots of waiting anticipated.
@CourtneyTheatre Just wanted to encourage not to let the rejections stop you from following your dream. There are lots and lots of theater training programs out there - including some excellent ones that don’t require auditions. Keep putting your best self out there! And remember: It only takes one “Yes”!
@CourtneyTheatre may I ask what your safeties are?
Carnegie Mellon audition today at noon! I hate for my D to miss school today and it’s exam week to boot! I tried my best to get her to go to school for a couple of hours this morning but no go LOL.
@marg928 I don’t have any non-audition BFA’s, but I’ve been academically accepted to TX state and to St. Edwards in Austin (which is a BA to BFA program). If I can’t get into any BFA’s this year I think I will pursue a BA then try to transfer.
I have a financial question…my actor/writer S has been accepted to two different public state universities in MO academically, and both of these schools have NAST accreditation. Southeast Missouri State University, and Missouri State University.
He has already auditioned and been accepted to SEMO, into their BFA Acting conservatory program. His December ACT retake score was a 32 composite, just one point shy of a full ride to SEMO. He has tuition covered with their next tier of scholarship, and we are waiting to see if he is granted a talent scholarship.
He has yet to audition for the other program, and was waiting, since SEMO is his first choice. The money question is this: MSU offers competitive academic scholarships, and my S went for their interview. He wowed them, and now we are waiting.
My personal feeling is if the program is your first choice, and the cost isn’t totally prohibitive, then go for it! But my DH feels that if our S is offered the presidential scholarship, then he should audition for them as well, since the $ would be there. Our child is looking to us for guidance and I wonder if there are folks on here who’ve been in a similar situation with money decisions and would be willing to offer suggestions as to how to frame our thought process or what questions to ask in order to help make a decision not based solely upon the $…
I appreciate any input.
Since they have set and published guidelines at these schools as to cutoffs for scholarship I don’t know if it would help, but if he gets the $ at MSU he could send that info to SEMO and see if they can come up with more for him. Maybe there is money they can pull from someplace else for him.
Another thought - if it is just room and board you will owe, he could perhaps be an RA in future years to help cover some of that cost. Or off campus may be less expensive at SEMO. So it may not be as much $ as you think over the course of four years.
He can always audition at MSU and keep options open for a while too. Take some time deciding. Look at each programs curriculum, performance opportunities, what alumni are doing now, etc, to compare his choices.
I will say that my D ended up going to a school that cost more than others that admitted her,
But it was her top choice. (It wasn’t the most expensive option she had, but wasn’t the cheapest either–middle of the road). In the end our family decided that the relatively minor cost differential wasn’t worth giving up her dream school for. Each family has to weigh their options and decide what works best for them.
Good luck. SEMO is a great program and really is a bargain compared to most. Congrats to him for his admission and scholarship.
I’m of the opinion that you shouldn’t close any doors too soon. There might be other factors, besides money, that would still factor into a final decision. If it’s easily feasible to go for the audition, then I would encourage him to just go. I’ve seen and heard of lots of people who decided on a school that wasn’t at the top of their list and it ends up being the best choice. You still have a few months before the final decision, so that’s my input.
As a caveat, if the additional audition would add a substantial amount of stress and scheduling, and you know he’s a good fit at SEMO, then skipping it might be worth your (and his) sanity.
@CourtneyTheatre great! I didn’t mean non-audition BFA’s…my D didn’t apply to any of those. I actually had no idea there were any until recently. Our coach never mentioned any of those programs either.
I just received a call this afternoon from University of the Arts! I was rejected for MT, but they want me for their Directing, Playwriting, and Production degree. This is my first acceptance and I’m really excited about it. It has always been something I was interested in but I never thought I would get a chance to study directing till later in life. It’s exciting to think I could start now!
@marg928 How did your daughter’s CMU audition go? Did they make her do anything crazy? How long did it last?
Good luck to her!
Yay, @WhiteRaven1!!!
