Congrats, @WhiteRaven1!
Wonderful news @WhiteRaven1
Awesome news, @WhiteRaven1 That sounds like a great program!
@momof3nerdz I think that @bfahopeful’s advice is spot on: Keep options open; ASK for a counter offer if the favored school comes in with less $$, have son consider being an RA to reduce the cost of subsequent years, and ENJOY the fact that your S has options-AND that he did so well in high school to afford these options. Best of luck!
@bwaygirl1 here’s the low down on the CMU audition: so the appointment time was 12:00 and we got there around 11:30 and by then there were a good amount of kids there. They had a large room with chairs and a table at the end with two students and an administrator working the check in, but they didn’t let anyone check-in till 12. I don’t think I ever clicked on the link in the confirmation email, I just put 12 down on my schedule so I was a little confused. I thought her actual audition appointment was at 12 but at that point it was clear that’s not how it worked. Now that I look at the link it did say that auditions start at 1 and that there would be an introduction for parents and students from 12:30-1.But that information was not on the email, you had to click on a link for it. There was a very short introduction, maybe 10 minutes total, where the two faculty members Barbara McKenzie-Wood and a man whose name I cannot remember, introduced themselves. (He was possibly Tony McKay based on the pics I saw on the website). They specifically said they were not going to speak about the program because the information was online. They did say that they group the MT’s and Acting majors together for many of their classes and that they encourage the students to take academic classes and even minor. Auditions then began and they called the kids in randomly. I’m guessing maybe there were 25 auditioning and there had also been a morning session. Barbara and Tony held auditions in separate rooms so either you saw one or the other and it also seemed to be random. I was disappointed that my D did not get Barbara because she took a master class with her a few months ago and loved her. She really wasn’t in the room long. She did her two monologues, a Shakespeare and a contemporary dramatic. He gave her a redirect on the Shakespeare, to do it more like she was humiliated. Then he talked to her a little bit about how she’s been dancing for so long and where she goes to school. She told him she sings too but he didn’t ask for a song. Then he just said, that was really good, thanks… and that was that! Another girl had just come out of the room with Barbara and we all started chatting and she was in there a lot longer. She wrote three monologues down on the sheet they make you fill out so Barbara told her to do them all! I was so worried about the 60 second time limit that my D and I never considered writing down more than two. oh well! Glad it’s over anyway!
@momof3nerdz My D is in a similar situation and she is going to audition at the “full ride” school. It’s not her top choice, but at the moment, she hasn’t heard back from any program so is not closing doors. If it’s not too stressful for your S, then by all means audition for MSU. It’s always good to have options. Have you asked anyone at SEMO if the 1 point ACT difference is a deal-breaker for the scholarship? Sometimes those score ranges published on college websites are general rules of thumb. They may take other things into consideration at SEMO, but you (He) might need to knock on doors and make some calls to get the answer you want. Good Luck!
@marg928 thank you for the info! My daughter went today for CMU. It was very similar as your child. She also did not get Barbara. It was very organized. My daughter wrote down 2 monologues but he asked her if she had another one. she did a 2nd Shakespeare one. He gave her one minor adjustment. Who knows? The kids all seemed really nice kids.
Good luck your daughter!
I have noticed that’s there’s not much information of USC’s acting program on CC. Anyone out there know anything about it? We visited the campus and had an information session with the director a year and a half ago. But I don’t think I’ve seen much info on the audition and selection process.
I auditioned for school of music at UNCSA on January 20 and haven’t heard anything back yet… has anyone’s heard anything???
So my darling D has been throwing up her guts all day and her SUNY Purchase audition is tomorrow, Rutgers and UNCSA on Sunday! Crossing my fingers it will be fast and furious! Otherwise it’s not the end of the world, we can go to the on campus audition at Purchase at the end of Feb if need be.
@marg928 fingers crossed she feels better fast. So sorry!
@marg928 - I am so sorry!! But the good news about stomach things is that they often do leave quickly… so hopefully all will be well soon. BAL
I just had my BU audition. I read a lot on CC about what a positive experience it was and how the auditor got the time to know you, but I’ve got to say, this was not the experience I had at all. The opening meeting was very nice, and McCaela Donovan was extremely thorough and welcoming. She kept reiterating the fact that they wanted to see you as a person, and really get to know you in the audition room. They then put up a list in the hall and I was placed with Kirsten. When I went in to audition with her, she told me that she was a playwrighting teacher, which struck me is odd, since she was auditioning actors.
I did my monologues and after both pieces she asked me why I’d chosen that monologue. Then we sat down to talk and she said to me, so you’re from Philadelphia? I’m not. I’m from a completely different state. She asked me why I liked theater and why I wanted to go to BU. Then she thanked me and as we were walking out, she said, have a nice trip back to Philadelphia! I guess it was kind of funny in retrospect, but in the moment, it just felt like she really didn’t care to learn about me at all.
Maybe my audition experience was a fluke and very, but it felt really cold, especially after CMU yesterday.
@marg298 sorry to here that! I heard on the news lots of flu and viruses going around. Driving d crazy telling her to wash her hands and take vitamins.
sorry to hear that @Isaroo! I’m wondering if anyone out there auditioned for Chapman and what you or your kid thought. My D and others who were auditioning around us though it was very quick…in and out and not much to it! Kinda disappointing since it was up there on my D’s list.
Got my rejection from Marymount Manhattan today (digital audition), i’m really starting to get scared i won’t get in anywhere.
@CourtneyTheatre hang in there. It will work out
@courtneytheater When did you audition for Marymount? Hang in…
Hi all! I’m really quite nervous for my 4 auditions this weekend: UNCSA, The Theatre School at DePaul, CalArts and UCLA. I already auditioned (online) for UCSD but won’t hear back until march D:
I really want to get into DePaul but I haven’t done too much with actual theatre, just really heavy ballet training. I was a good actress in ballet but this is very new to me. I know it might sound useless for me to even try but I want it so bad :3
@abblesauce My D is also auditioning for UNCSA this weekend but did CalArts and UCLA last weekend. Are you doing the UNCSA in NY? My D also doesn’t have tons of theater experience, she danced since she was 2. Don’t underestimate how much that can help you though! Let us know how it goes! My D loved her CalArts audition last weekend…UCLA was very different though. Be prepared for it to take at least 3 hours.
