@portalupdateplz how did he hear?
It’s on the portal! Also UCI is out, but rolling. Again, on the portal.
My D just got the email from UCLA but she’s not home :((
@marg928 an email? maybe that’s a good sign! My understanding was just portal updates! Fingers crossed for your D!
@portalupdateplz It just looks like a generic email that says the portal is updated…
UCLA is a no…95% of me knew she would never get in there…but of course there’s always that little bit of “what if” LOL. It’s an academic admit as much as talent so really no surprise…especially for an out of stater…letter said they had 102,000 applicants for 6000 spots…crazy! and UC Irvine’s portal won’t even load right now…
@marg928 Well, you still have good choices out on the West Coast and USC comes next week! Did your D apply to UCSB?
@followyourheart that’s so exciting - my S heard a yes from Northwestern as well - but only for theatre - I was trying to get him to do the BM route as well, but no luck! Congrats to your daughter.
@portalupdateplz yes she applied to both USC and UCSB
@marg928 - so sad to hear. We will pray for the family - and it surely does put things in perspective.
@efr9598 congrats to your S! I think my D needs to pick one degree…my mind can’t process how a young person who is learning to live on her own could survive the rigors of a dual performance degree (without a mom to do the laundry and cleaning, lol)…ultimately, She must make the final decision about what’s best for her…she knows best what her limits are.
@LuvsLabs The heart wants, what the heart wants!
The heart took another hit this morning - a no from BU.
I do wish they would give more than a standard letter after an auditioned applicant is denied - after all, we paid an extra fee. For instance, it would be nice to know if it was an academic rejection or an artistic rejection.
I understand that since she didn’t apply to anything other than the BFA program that BU would not have accepted her academically to pursue another degree without a separate application (McCaela Donovan made that clear at the audition), but since they also emphasize that their BFA’s are not accepted if they would NOT be academically fitted for the school, it would be nice to know which was the deciding factor.
Oh well, if wishes came true, she’d have been accepted everywhere she applied!
@LuvsLabs we also were rejected from BU. It is so hard to have no feedback or rationale. Well, at least we are waiting for one less response. I hope everyone gets some good news this weekend.
@followurheart and@erf9598, my D also got an acceptance form NU, followed by a rejection from UCLA and BU. Love the fact that she may end up in Chicago where her brother is in Med school! She also got an early acceptance form USC (BA, still waiting to here if she will get into the BFA program). So I am very happy that she has some awesome choices, but was really hoping that she might be closer to home (we are from Boston). Also, just for her, am hoping that she gets at least one artistic acceptance. I know I sound ungrateful because she has these 2 awesome schools to pick from, but it would be nice for her to know that she got into somewhere for her artistic ability. Best of luck for everyone still waiting. It is so hard to explain this process to anyone not familiar with it. My friends and family think I am crazy lady! Thank goodness for all of you!
@BandMom55 congrats to your D too. I completely understand the need for artistic validation at this juncture. It is humbling and even devaluing at times. If you are like us, we have been discussing college since 8th grade. Saying things like, “this will look great on my college resume!” Etc…and as an artist this isn’t something our kids woke up 6 months ago (in most cases) and decided to do. They have been working and training for years. It feels cruel to allow 5 mins for something that they (and we) devoted years of dedication and practice for. FYI, I only hang out with my crazy music and theatre friends these days! Best of luck to your D as the final schools make their notifications and decisions are made.
I had a little rant over on the MT board so I might as well post here too! My D is on her way to AADA right now BTW for an Open House and audition. We added it last minute as a back up plan…sent my husband because I’m having people over tomorrow but I did want to see it for myself. Although my D has some good options, I’m really not complaining…I still have some regrets. I feel that 23 schools still wasn’t enough! She wanted the big rah rah school with the football etc but hasn’t gotten into any of those (rejections from FSU, UCLA, UCSD, Rutgers, Miami (didn’t pass prescreen), U. Washington and waitlist for Minn/Guthrie. USC is still left but no one should count on that! She could do the BA at FSU or Rutgers or even U. Alabama if she really wanted to I guess but I doubt she would choose football over an acting program. Michigan was on the list but after finishing the common app and seeing how much work the supplement was she decided to let it go…she was overwhelmed at that point with writing. And Elon…well I’ve said it before…I LOVED it when we visited and so did she. I don’t know why I let her let it go after passing the prescreen. "It’s too Vineyard Vines for me! :(( " blah blah blah! We visited in the summer and no one was even on campus so I don’t know how she made that judgment! Based on a few people she knows is all. The fact that they don’t come to Unifieds did make it quite difficult though which was a factor but if she had shown interest we would have made it work…BIG MISTAKE! And now I find out that Arizona State gives out huge talent money (perhaps only for MT?) I’m kicking myself for taking that one off the list too. But the list had 45 schools on it so some had to go LOL! Ugh just venting now…nowhere she really wants to go gave her any money so basically we are going to have to fork over huge bucks at this point. The only schools that gave her any significant money are Pace, Tampa, Cornish and UAB. Still waiting on results from USC, American, CMU, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara…all long shots except American where she has no interest in going. Coming off the waitlist at UNCSA or Guthrie would be amazing at this point financially. She’s waitlisted at Chapman too but I’m getting some weird vibes from that program. We will go visit in a couple of weeks just in case she comes off the waitlist. Anyway that’s my rant for the day! Love you all :)>-
@marg928 you unloaded to the right group…I think some thoughtful responses and suggestions are coming your way. Ultimately…my brain is fried, my D has three insane choices. I could hardly sleep last night. we are not done yet, a new set of worry has set in. There is still so much to work out financially on spreadsheets, artistically, travel (how much is it to get home? etc), is the school a good fit and “fit” is not something that can be worked out on an Excel spreadsheet or by looking at college rankings, it’s something they feel inside of them when they visit campus…it’s that feeling that makes their heart soar, it makes them want to practice and study. The humans on campus and that interaction they have with them can light a fire inside of them too. Positive interactions with other students and teachers gives them passion and drive and excitement about how blessed they are to have landed in a place that fits them.
Let the process happen…I think she will discover where her best fit is…you have done a great job…don’t spend energy on regrets and “what ifs”.
Side note, I keep editing this because I’m sleep deprived typing…so I apologize for that…haha
Sending vibes for movement off the WL @marg28. Those are two awesome programs.
@marg928 what did you mean by “weird vibes” from Chapman? just asking because it’s a school that i’m considering even though i think i felt what you did during at least half of my audition.
