Class of 2021 (Discussing application season, sharing, venting)

@bfahopeful I had noticed on their website recently that the name of the major went from BFA Acting to BFA Acting for Stage, Screen and New Media. I asked on CC if anyone knew what that was all about but no one ever answered. I have the whole info session recorded on my phone so I can send it to you if you’re interested. The main thing is that they are increasing the credits in the program (by 3 maybe?) and they took out the study abroad option. However there seems to be a lot more acting for film in the program and also classes on social media and how to market yourself. They want them to be prepared for the future in the digital age. There was a lot and I can’t remember everything…she also mentioned the new Dean there who is spearheading the changes.

That sounds amazing! Thx for the info @marg928

@marg928 @CMB625 I also got the impression that AADA is a good program and better than AMDA. (Of course, it’s straight acting and no MT.) My S just got accepted at AADA and also at Neighborhood Playhouse. If we do the conservatory route, he would definitely attend NP.

@marg928 My D and I were also at Pace on Saturday. I recall hearing some students talking about an Xmen pilot in and about flying out to USC. I think they were in a row behind me – I was in the front row closest to the door (and the cold draft brrrr!). Which program did your D audition for? My D intended to audition for both the BA and BFA in Acting, but found out while were there that you have to register for those separately, so she only did BFA Acting. She made it through to the last movement class, so now we wait. . . .

Hope your D’s audition went well! BAL at USC!

@daughtersdreams LOL that must have been us! I was standing by the door until the kids were called and then I sat in the front row for the parent session. My older D was the dance major who Wayne was addressing. I was chatting with another mom who I had met a couple of weeks ago at the Carnegie Mellon audition. My D auditioned for both BFA programs.

Wait @daughtersdreams are you the person I was talking to at the end, sitting in the last seat?

@marg928 I know exactly who your D’s are! They are both lovely young women. And my D loved your younger D who was in her acting audition group. Your D left her clothes in the trunk and the look on her face when she found out you had driven away with her things and were NOT coming back to give them to her was priceless! LOL!

@marg928 - Maybe --but weren’t your D’s the two blondes? Did we chat? I chatted with a mom to my right who was from Long Island and had a dark-haired daughter, I thought.

@marg928 I’m trying to sort this out - I did have a long discussion with a mom of a brunette girl from Long Island – was that you? Or are you the mom of the blonde girl, whose older sister currently attends Pace?

@daughtersdreams I’m the mom of the blond girl with the older sister dance major at Pace. The woman from Long Island I had met at the CMU audition so we were chatting. My husband was with me too and I mentioned that I went to Pace as well. Nice to meet you LOL.

and oh boy @daughtersdreams I realized her overnight bag was in my car when I was literally turning onto my street! She survived though! Luckily her sister lives near Pace and she was able to borrow some things.

@marg928 Oh yes! I remember both you & your hubby. Nice to “meet” you again, as well!

You were chatting with the mom from LI and you/we told her about CC and she said she hadn’t been on here. I also remember our discussion about Pace having been a business college when you attended. It’s nice that your older D is there as well, so if your younger D attends she’ll have her sister nearby at least for part of the time. They seemed to get along very well.

@daughtersdreams My older D is graduating in May so no overlap unfortunately!

First rejection today…SUNY PURCHASE one of my D’s top choices. That hurt :frowning:

That feeling is awful. Tomorrow is a new day.

@marg928 Sorry about the rejection for Purchase. Don’t let it put a shadow over her hopes. My D thought your D was very talented and I’m sure she’ll get a spot in a great school!

@marg928 Hang in there! The first redirection is the toughest! Onward and upward!!

It’s fine…she was very interested in the school but I had my doubts that it was for her. The program is amazing but I just didn’t see her fitting in there, especially since she wants West Coast.
