This was about two years ago, but in my D’s letter it was mentioned that 2% of applicants were awarded full tuition scholarships, so that would be about 600. But of course they don’t all end up attending.
@mommdc This year is looking much different.
@hailtopitt1787 My son has been admitted as a Computer Science major. Does the introduction of the new School of Computing and Information have any impact on the opportunities for merit aid? He has strong stats but has not heard anything yet about merit aid. Thank you.
@MomTwentySeven, That should have no impact on freshman scholarships. Since the School of Computing and Information is an upper level division school, your son will start in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences to complete initial prerequisites before transferring into the SCI to complete his Computer Science degree. As a result, for freshman scholarships he will be reviewed as a student entering the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences (where the computer science major was previously located anyway).
Hope that helps clarify. Best of luck!

Does anyone know when the Chancellor’s nominee interviews would be around? Also, when would we be contacted about this? I submitted my Chancellor’s app about a week ago.
@yunakk21 --we can only guess about Chancelllor’s interviews based on previous years threads. Looks like those start trickling in about late January, early Feb.
Once they receive all of your application materials they will send you an email letting you know your application is complete.

H2P answers that question in the above thread, post #13
I applied early and was accepted in October but I haven’t heard anything about my financial aid or scholarships, does that mean I will not be receiving any?
I would think if the committee started meeting again on Friday Jan 6th, after Christmas break, that some letters might have gone out possibly yesterday.
It has been posted here repeatedly that merit notification will continue to go out until March.
Also H2P said that if you have submitted your FAFSA to Pitt, you should hear about financial aid starting in February
@aqua21dane, As mommdc mentioned, scholarship notification goes out until March 1 and we will start to send financial aid information in February. You still have time!
Best of luck,

@yunakk21 and any other Chancellor’s nominee, I called the Honors college to get more details and talked to the man in charge of the scholarship app. He told me that notifications about interviews-either yes or no- would be sent out at the end of January or beginning of February. He said they’ve been reviewing apps and been making decisions once December.
@hailtopitt1787
Can you possibly ask the Scholarship Committee if they actually intend to send any more merit scholarship letters out this year? I know that “scholarships letters CAN arrive any time before March 1” but it would be nice to know if they are REALLY still meeting and intend to send out more offers.
Also, is it possible a student with stellar stats can be overlooked because they got a 33 ACT instead of a 34?
Finally, on what date did Pitt update their web site to say they no longer super score the ACT? Consider that this may have happened after a student thought they actually had a high enough ACT to qualify for merit and so they didn’t think they needed to test again.
Some reassurance that there is still a chance for merit will be a big help to those under extreme stress right now. Thank you.
@flashk, The Scholarship Committee really does review students and send out letters up until March 1. The Scholarship Committee carefully reviews applicants, frequently looking at their application multiple times before making a decision. This process takes time, so letters are still going out and will continue to go out in February. Those who are selected for a scholarship will definitely hear by March 1 at the latest.
The Scholarship Committee reviews candidates holistically and makes their decisions carefully. The process is extremely competitive and the Committee works hard to give candidates a fair and thorough review. The guidelines posted on our site are simply meant to show you what kinds of candidates tend to receive scholarships.
I understand these are stressful times, but I assure you that our office is working very hard to make decisions and get the word out about those decisions. Best of luck and thank you for your continued patience!

parent of in state applicant. Accepted into school of arts and sciences 34 ACT, GPA 4.0 , advanced classes, excellent extra curricular and received scholarship of 8000. (2000 per yr). Still awaiting to hear about other scholarships. no invite for chancellors .
@lcac123 --GPA? That seems to be a super important part of their merit equation…both high scoers + GPA.
Edited: I read your post wrong. Your student has already received a scholarship of $2K per year. I thought you said you were waiting on a scholarship offer.
My apologies and congrats on the scholarship.
My son received his merit award letter today! $10,000 per year! For others who are anxiously waiting, the letter was dated Jan 12 & arrived in a large yellow envelope. In-state, 33 ACT, 12 AP courses, Weighted GPA: 5.13, Unweighted: 3.94. Hoping lots of other kids hear today, too! Good luck to everyone!
I wasn’t really expecting any money since I fall at the bottom of most of the qualifications and my biggest seller is my extra curriculars (which aren’t usually Pitt’s main focus), but I received my letter for 8000 over four years today. I had a 33 ACT, a 5 on the AP Psych test and a 4 on Chem, took a bunch of honors classes and some AP (2 junior year and 2 senior) and my grades were generally good (I think I had a 4.24 weighted- I had three B’s freshman year but not one since and my essay was explaining why). It’s not really much, but like I said I wasn’t really expecting anything from Pitt since I have lower stats and I’m in state so it was a nice surprise.
@alyssah913 – it’s a crazy world where a 33 is considered “the bottom” of the qualifications, isn’t it! That is a crazy good score and congrats on your scholarship!
As far as I know, the ACT composite score of 33 has been listed on the website all through this application cycle.
