Keep us posted, @missnypizza. BAL to your D!
@missnypizza don’t second guess what you’ve done in the process. If you submitted late so be it. You can’t change that. If you have been reading you’ll know rejections are quite common even with academic acceptances. I encourage you to have a plan in place if you don’t get your desired result. Is your child ok in a BA theater program? Is your child ok majoring in something else or do you take a gap year and start the process all over again? You look like you have good list and have auditioned for a lot of schools. Hang in there. It’s long road to May 1st. I
@missnypizza I agree that prescreen results seem to have no common thread. My D passed UMich, Ithaca, Shenendoah and Pace but didn’t pass Temple, Penn State, Elon, Indiana or Coastal Carolina. So who knows what the secret sauce is for each school - it’s a mystery. This is a really harsh process and I applaud all these kids for having the courage and perseverance to face it head on. Best of luck to your daughter!!
Thanks for your support!! It’s exhausting and heartbreaking! Will hang tough though!!!
D just got a letter from Otterbein Office of Admissions: It basically says that since she never submitted her prescreen (she did-and she didn’t pass), they are not “recommending her for admission at this time.” That was her ONE prescreen “no”. She has long ago written them off-it honestly isn’t a great fit for her; but how bizarre.
OMG @owensfolks we got the same letter when we returned from Unifieds. Same, letter and we DID send in prescreen, but were not passed through…lol…
I can’t decide if it’s worded poorly, or if they were confused, @Mtmomkbh. Oh well. D got over that one quickly so I haven’t even told her about the letter, lol!
@owensfolks me neither, like theres no point really:)
Same letter here!
@missnypizza my D passed all prescreens to all top schools but not Penn State and they took walk in at the unified in chicago go figure? we have elon this friday and wagner next sunday then we wait! Fingers crossed crazy crazy ride.
@lincoln56 wow lucky girl! That’s interesting because I was advised against walking in to a pre-screen that my D didn’t pass. Have you ever heard that? Bummer if that’s not true…we just did Emerson and BW this past weekend! Loved BW…we are done! (except local university where we live)
I was frankly really surprised by the number of prescreen schools taking walkins at Unifieds. This included Penn State, Otterbein, and Temple. In hindsight knowing this I would have had my daughter skip sending in videos to those schools and just take her chances at Unifieds. She is much more polished with her material now than she was back in October when we felt rushed and stressed to get her videos done. Something for those doing this process next year to consider for sure!
@sopranomtmom I thought that slots filled up weeks in advance at these schools so I’m surprised they had walk ins available. While it’s great that kids have the opportunity to be seen by more schools this way, it kind of doesn’t seem fair to those who went to the effort of doing “required” prescreens. Which brings up another curious situation: I wonder if someone who submitted a prescreen and was rejected, could then do a walk in?
@daughtersdreams - My D kinda did just that. She had an early “live pre-screen” in November at Moonifieds for Otterbein. Her audition was delayed, she sang one song in the wrong key (Why did she have two different keys on her MP3 player??) , and she felt that it was her worst audition. When we hadn’t heard anything several weeks later, she was told they had notified everyone they wanted to see, but that she was welcome to try for a walk-in later in the season. Since she was particularly interested in the MT - Dance Emphasis program, she did do a walk-in at Unifieds. There was only one faculty member in November and she was hoping to do a better audition and be seen by dance faculty in Chicago. She did do a walk-in and was told that they weren’t doing dance auditions in Chicago but that they wanted her to send in videos of different dance styles after she got home. Then…the day after we got home, she got an email saying she wasn’t being considered for the program. By that time, we were both able to laugh about it and decide - Look, they just REALLY don’t want you.
@daughtersdreams My D was rejected by a school after Ohio Unified (mass in-person prescreen) that the school happened to attend. After receiving that letter, she emailed the school to cancel her Chicago audition and scheduled another school in that slot. Then the first school sent her an email to confirm her audition the day before the unifieds slot, and she didn’t want to just be a non-show, so she had to go to the table and say, listen, you really don’t want me so please cancel my time. Honestly it felt very backward, and she could have totally auditioned again but she felt, what’s the point? Hopefully someone else was able to snag her spot after it opened up, lol!
@sopranomtmom I’m with you on that! I agree too. I would have rather taken the chance to walk in on some of those schools for sure. My D missed out on a few potential good opportunities because of failed pre-screens. They are not a good enough measure of the real person as far as I’m concerned. I wish I had been reading on here sooner and I would have made that decision. We had plenty of auditions scheduled for good no-prescreen schools but for the others- my D only passed 3 out of about 8. And I was specifically told never to walk in after a rejected pre-screen. Booooo…BAL to you!
I truly feel for you all. My son’s a junior and has made close friends with a couple senior girls hoping to major in MT
So much pressure on the kids. We want them all to get into great programs. We sweat out news of their auditions and the decisions that seem to take so very longer to hear. There’s more talent then there are spots. Its heartbreaking to watch sometimes. I wish all the best for your kids!
