Got it @owensfolks - I appreciate it! D’s first audition is next weekend and she wants all of the application stuff that needs to be done out of the way before then so looks like she should knock that one out today. Can’t believe it’s almost time to start already - this fall flew by! Best of luck to ur D and I m very impressed she’s handling it alone! Just so much involved so wow!!
I am in the same boat as everyone else! Finished all my apps and have scheduled most of my auditions. Still waiting on some prescreens I just sent in. My first audition is in 2 weeks, the day after my 18th b-day and I am so scared. I don’t feel ready at all… I am just taking it one day at a time.
Hang in there @WhiteRaven1. Like most things, it’s scarier to think about than it is to do. One of my friends is a classical musician and I asked him once if he ever got nervous. He said, no, I do my best and I know that will be enough. I like to think about that when I get nervous about whatever. Good luck.
BAL @WhiteRaven1! And happy birthday. My d’s 18th is on Friday, and her first audition is Saturday.
BAL to all as you start the audition craziness. Can’t wait to hear how things go. Everyone will find their way. In a year you all will be happily involved in your new program (or your kids program). Buckle up and try to enjoy it a little. This is really precious time spent as a family this year and it is one of my favorite memories with my own daughter. Even the stress and let downs- I’m grateful I was there to support. And also that I was there to celebrate!
Keep us all posted after auditions!
@bfahopeful my very close friend gave me the same advice! I was so stressed out last week and probably nagging my D too much to finish all her check list items…My best friend had a good talk with both of us about enjoying this last year together and these are precious memories we are creating etc. We both got a good laugh recalling how grumpy we were those last few nights of submitting applications. I would say, “slow down, you are clicking too fast and missing the details!” She would sternly reply, “read faster, I read it all, you read too slow, I’m clicking because I’m done reading.” Lol! I am also very grateful to be on this journey with her, even if from time to time she asks me to exit the ride…
Oh yes- @followurheart I was asked to exit the ride too. in the end your daughter will be so grateful for your support, love and guidance. Enjoy!
Boy do I need to vent! I’m so stressed right now and no one else seems to get it. My friends love to brag about how their kid is doing everything by themselves and I have done everything for my daughter except the writing. I just print out what she needs to write and hand it to her. If I didn’t do all this I don’t think there would even be one app in yet! She hasn’t cleaned her room in months…there are clothes everywhere and she’s going to Ecuador on a school trip on Thursday morning for 12 days! She taped her prescreens on Thursday with her local acting teacher (not her MTCA coach) and I came along because I’m a control freak. I wanted to make sure everything got done correctly…she needed 60 sec and 90 sec takes of both her monologues. I wanted the acting teacher there just to help her with the acting part but I didn’t 100% trust she would do the tech part correctly. She assured me she knew what she was doing and I had everything written down but My D wouldn’t let me stay in the room…she refused to act in front of me. So…I sat in the lobby area. In 10 minutes she comes out and asks me if I can hear her and I say I can hear voices so she makes me go far far away! I sit there for an hour and half and she never comes out. I finally left (she had class right after anyway) and when I get everything downloaded I see that she did it all wrong! She did her full 2.5 minute monologues and expected me to cut them down! I’m sure you know that’s nearly impossible! I managed it as best I could but her MTCA coach was not happy. He told her what she needed to do and so did I but she went and did what she wanted anyway. Doing them over is not an option at this point because several of them are due tomorrow plus she woke up Saturday morning with literally no voice. She’s a cheerleader and Friday night was our homecoming game so between the screaming and the cold air (and the Halloween party after) she looked like complete crap the next day. She was Homecoming Queen though LOL! What can I do now? All I can do is my best. Chapman is the only school with a hard 11/1 deadline and that’s ready to go except for the recorded personal statement which she’s going to have to do with a hoarse voice. The plan was to get LMU in Early Action but that’s tomorrow and there’s still more writing to be done so I don’t see that happening. I guess it’s not the end of the world to apply regular decision. And this week she added schools to the already way too big list! I was shocked when her MTCA coach told her last week she should apply to Juilliard. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s too late at this point anyway. I can’t wait until this week is over! Taking my 13 year old to Disney on Saturday while my other D is in Ecuador. Hopefully there won’t be a hurricane because that’s the luck I’ve been having lately!
@marg928 you are not alone! I am with you. My d is so busy it will be a miracle if she gets all her pre-screens and applications in on time. Stressed.
I’m right there with ya!! Pulling my hair out. We are going to have to miss school to shoot prescreens. Totally overbooked!
We “older” parents SO get it. Try to keep breathing. Donuts and wine may help.
We added on Minnesota/Guthrie just a couple of weeks ago. I got the application done but their prescreen is asking for three monologues, one of which is a mis-cast role. She doesn’t have one of those. It’s so annoying…they’re the only school I’ve seen asking for something like that. I could have had the thing handed in today!
@marg928 does guthrie require a prescreen this year? Those 3 monologues were the requirements last year for the audition. No prescreen required. And they ask many kids to sing too (even though not on the requirements) - just FYI.
I was just thinking same thing about Guthrie prescreen- that was not something they did D’s year. (Though requirements were the same). D loved the mis-cast monologue- probably her favorite thing she did all season. True about singing- and they were also a school that asked her to do things from her resume - she had just been in picnic and they asked to,see something from that, and from Midsummer which she had done a year earlier.
Hey all. S just passed pre-screens for Penn State, Shenandoah and Pace. Put in pre-screen for Elon, but for the 2nd round of auditions so won’t hear back until mid-January from them. Glad that’s over. Glad to have this forum for moral support!
@bfahopeful @toowonderful THANK YOU!!! I just looked again on Get Accepted and it says they are optional! I only saw “Upload media”, not the small print on top that said it was only for students who couldn’t attend a call back weekend. You have saved me thank you! I will be pressing “send” shortly!
@marg928 I went back and checked my D’s spreadsheet and was going to remark that no Guthrie prescreen was required last year. However, she did her call-back (post-Unifieds) via upload because she was in a show call-back weekend. The upload was an exact replica of the audition requirements, including the song, so you may want to save your prescreen! My D was also asked for an additional monologue at her Guthrie audition (and not one from a show on her resume). They asked her if she could do a comedic monologue - any genre. She had worked on one the summer before and felt like she “winged it” but at felt pretty good that she could respond with something outside her audition package. Expect the unexpected I suppose! Best of luck to you.
@artskids I responded this morning that I was mistaken and it was optional. I hit the button today and she has her audition slot at Unifieds!
@marg928 GREAT! BAL!!
i have to say, that the way things are going there may be few schools that do NOT require some form of digital submission. This has really grown each year. Interesting
