Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

I had my first audition on Saturday at JMU. Totally forgot my monologues but I did great on my songs. The dance call was challenging for an inexperienced dancer like me. (Everything went by so quickly) All in all I think I did ok. It was good to feel out the audition process before BW this weekend. :>

BAL at BW this weekend, @WhiteRaven1 !

D had an audition at the University of Texas last weekend for BFA Acting. There were 4 auditors, 3 men and 1 woman. She performed 2 monologues and then they sat her down and asked her to perform the 1st one again. Then they did a short little interview asking would she really move to Texas from California etc.
She had her Pepperdine audition for BA Theatre this Saturday. She loved the relaxed vibe and felt a lot less nervous than the first one at Texas. She performed 2 monologues and 16 bars and then they asked her “Why Pepperdine?” They did not ask her to workshop her pieces.

Has anyone heard back from Chapman or TCU regarding prescreens?

So last night my D finally wrote the Miami prescreen essay so we hit send. Within minutes (at 11:00pm!) I got a message from them that they couldn’t view the videos. So…I log in and the first few in the media are fine but then I scroll down to some of the other takes and they don’t work! There is no way I didn’t check that they were working after I uploaded them! I’m going to call Get Accepted today but this is a huge disaster! We submitted pre-screens to six schools on there and I’m sure some of the media that’s not working is attached to those applications! Now what? Once the application is submitted it’s not like I can add to it!

We hit send on a few prescreens last night also and I was worried what if something happens and there’s a glitch? Do they even tell you or just throw out your application? I always get antsy with things electronic!

Every school that we sent a prescreen to sent an email stating that they received the submission. If you sent it through accepted, you will get an email from Accepted, if you sent it through Decision Desk, you get an email from Decision Desk

My daughter’s prescreen was rejected from Otterbein and University of Michigan. Disappointing but she’s sticking it out until the end! Good luck to you!!

This connects some dots for me. My daughter’s theatre instructor recommended against penn state because she said that they typically cast grad students in shows versus undergrads, so she would not get a lot of opportunity for parts. She wants to build her resume and gain as much experience as possible so she took penn state off of her list. If this is the first year of BFA, I wonder if that could mean that there will be a shift toward casting more undergrads? She may reconsider (although that essay requirement will give her some pause - she is burnt out on application and prescreen essays!)

I was talking to a mom at my daughter’s first audition. We were both bundles of nerves - I said this must be how dads inthe 50s felt when their wives were giving birth!! I’ve been through a lot, but I’ve never been so nervous about anything in my entire life.

@ownsfolks we heard in about 2 weeks from otterbein on the prescreen, so you hopefully will not have to wait long. And hopefully your daughter’s news is better than mine!

@CentralOHmomof4 Penn state had had a BFA for MT for a while. It is the acting BFA that is new

I got emails from Accept’d that’s not the issue. The issue is that although the video Monologues show up in the media they are not playable. There was no error message when I uploaded them, they processed fine. So now those files are attached to applications and it can’t be changed. I have to hope the schools contact me and tell me that the media isn’t working and at that point I can send them other files through the messages.

Thanks, @CentralOHmomof4 ! She submitted 11/1, so hopefully any day. She heard from Florida State today-submitted 10/12.

@marg, I’m having heart palpitations just reading that! I hope the schools do contact you and let you submit them another way!

(Sorry, meant @marg928 )

What’s weird is I am not all that nervous when my D goes to do her audition. I mean I get more worried about her getting sick or waking up barfing or something lol. Like after going through all that effort to get to the audition and it not work out or can’t go because of weather this winter etc.
that is where my worries are! I mean the flu can knock you out for days! Gotta get that flu shot yet!!

@marg928 did you have any luck today, in contacting Get Accepted? I would think that the individual schools will definitely reach out and let you know of the issue-but I also feel your pain!!! My D did everything without my help-she doesn’t know that her login and password are saved on my laptop, lol-but based on what I’ve peeked at, I think she also initially had some download/visibility issues.

@owensfolks I spoke to someone this morning. She thought it might have something to do with the way I exported the file from iMovie. It really makes no sense and I really didn’t get very far with her although she did seem to know her stuff. It took her a while to understand that these were not failed uploads. She encouraged me to re upload and attach the new media to the UMiami message. She said she would speak to tech and have them take a look and she would get back to me. By 3:00 I got tired of waiting so I called them. She said that something went wrong on my end. All said files are on my computer and all play fine but whatever. She said that if I were to view the website with google chrome as opposed to Safari I would see that they’re pixelated and staticky. I did reupload the files for UMiami and they got them. I emailed Pace and those were fine. I just don’t know which schools have the bad files so I’m going to have to make some calls tomorrow. The worst part of this is that I can’t just replace the files so that the schools would automatically get the good ones. Once a file is attached to an application it can’t be removed.

Just to let you know for Miami you need to go on there website and apply thru the school accept is optional. I did not know that and ended up spending 150 bucks for both. My D passed the prescreen and we just added NYC because our Chicago schedule is packed. Also heard back from Penn State they have 100 more prescreens this year than last year at this time. I agree with everyone this is so stressful I am hoping I can enjoy the ride and she finds her place.

Ok this is crazy. I just went on my desktop computer which has Google Chrome to see what the pixellated videos look like. The woman at GetAcceptd said that on Chrome that’s how they look as opposed to on Safari where they just don’t load. Well…on Chrome they all play fine!!! This is nuts and the complete opposite of what she told me!
