We are still preparing prescreens to send off. Have only sent one, this week her musical is over and Sunday they will all be sent. She just has to write a couple of supplements and do introductions. I have told her however, I feel like the prescreens are good way to see if her material is working. If she doesn’t get positive response then it could be a blessing because it can let you know if you need to look for better material that shows her off more. She had shown me a monologue earlier this fall that I thought she could have a better fit. She got another one and it fits her personality a lot better I think and shows who she has a lot more. But because of that we are late getting everything off.
Can anyone tell me if Syracuse prescreens have anything to do with grades? Do they check with admissions before they say yes to your prescreen?
@CentralOHmomof4 … the nature of BFA acceptances changes so rapidly, most of your high school/community voice/acting teachers don’t have a true handle on it. I’m sure there are some that have their finger on the pulse - but those are rare.
As for getting a coach, money well spent and I wish we would’ve done that.
I have always wished there could be a controlled study - a way to see what results would be for same student with/without coach. Obviously an impossibility… unless there are another set of MTTwins out there…
My daughter has a local acting teacher who studied under Uta Hagen but when it came to taping her pre-screens for me she totally screwed it up. Her MTCA coach was not too happy. I had to work with what we had though because she had no time to re-do them and she got laryngitis right after that anyway. When I told her that her college coach wasn’t happy she said “I’ve been doing this 30 years blah blah”. Well I had never even told her I was using a coach so I sent her the MTCA website link so she could see that it was a serious outfit. She was like…wow there wasn’t anything like this when my kids were applying.
@momma2a Her BFA safety was University of Rhode Island, her BA safety (she had several) but ended up choosing Drew University in New Jersey. She is straight acting though, so I am sure safeties for MT are different.
My daughter just got her first acceptance letter:) It was from her safety school, and she auditioned early with the hopes that she would have that in her back pocket! However, this safety school has risen to the top of her list. It is a BA and since she has decided to double major, she is thinking this is the route to go. She has seen several of their productions and was very impressed by the talent. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the end.
@momma2a My daughter was BFA all the way until she fell in love with her safety. Now she can’t imagine having gone the BFA route. If you want to here the benefits of a BA over a BFA message me!
@momma2a there are few schools that would let a BFA double major so BA is probably her only route. It’s hard enough to minor in a BFA program! A big part of me would like to see my D in an auditioned BA. She’s interested in so many other things and I think it would make for a better college experience.
Just got an email that D passed Chapman prescreen! Woohoo that’s a top pick of hers! Now the scheduling juggling begins! Any advice on how far apart to schedule auditions for Unifieds?
@marg928 I think my D is starting with scheduling one per day, and then she will add a second one to each day, as needed. I think one school gave HER a time and day; and another only has the one dance call, so those were the things she had to work around.
