That aside, I was leaning more towards UIUC because it’s in a democratic state, Georgia being a Republican state, I’ve heard stuff about racial discrimination against Indians and the sort.
“Georgia being a Republican state”
The whole idea of Republican or Democratic states is wrong. Whichever state you are in, urban areas tend to be Democratic, rural areas tend to be Republican. Likewise, Atlanta is a Democratic stronghold and the birthplace of the civil rights movement (MLK came from here). In fact, Georgia Tech is in a Democratic congressional district (represented by civil rights hero John Lewis), while UIUC is in a Republican congressional district. IMO this shouldn’t matter much, but just putting it out there.
I don’t know about racial discrimination against Indians specifically, but Atlanta is a majority-black city, so take that as you will.
I’ve been accepted into Georgia Tech early too, and will likely attend even if I get into UIUC next month. UIUC does have an awesome CS program though, so feel free to go there! Just reconsider the democratic/republican thing.
@sinefromabove Thanks for the clarification! However, I still think that I should attend UIUC as I get a feel that Georgia Tech gives more priority to their engineering programs than to CS while in UIUC, CS is their flagship program.
Fair enough, CS at UIUC will definitely be special!
@justarandomuser0 yes, I received the same request from two UCs. Considering if/when to take it as it’s optional. Are you planning to take the test?
@applicantclass2022 UCLA asked me to submit the scores until 28th. Since it is optional, I’m thinking not to. I hope this doesn’t hurt my chances of getting in though. What about you?
@applicantclass2022 , @justarandomuser0 we have not received any such mail, just curiouls did you both submit TOEFL?
@UmaSridhar - yes, I submitted TOEFL
@justarandomuser0 I am not planning to take it… it’s $50 for no reason, considering both toefl and sat scores provide sufficient evidence of my English skills. Also the email clearly says it’s optional, so I don’t think it should hurt our chances. Please let me know if you end up taking the test.
@UmaSridhar Yes, I submitted TOEFL too.
@applicantclass2022 Exactly. Maybe it’s just a way to promote the test no one takes. I’m not going to take any more tests now.
So is no one taking the duolingo test?
Heard of anyone in Mumbai area getting Stanford interview? I know that Princeton, Penn and Brown interviews are being scheduled but haven’t heard about Yale/Stanford.
I applied for financial aid for RD. I submitted my CSS profile, but was not required to upload any material as part of that submission. Should I submit documentation (tax returns etc.) to Upenn? Appreciate any advice.
@India2018 UPenn does not use IDOC. You have to submit their own financial aid application as well as all documentation through their own portal. Check out the UPENN financial aid webpage for instructions.
Thanks @CValle They seem to be cool with CSS profile for the moment. I wrote to SFS and received the following reply:
After reviewing your CSS PROFILE, I see you applied as an International Student, therefore, at this time you would not need to submit any additional documents.
anyone received interview invite from Cornell?
I don’t think Cornell gives interviews except for a select few schools and majors.
@Dreamz25 Do you know about dartmouth?
@Dhruvtaneja No idea about Dartmouth. No word yet on the Stanford / Yale interviews
