Class of 2022 RD Discussion Thread

Do those who received an email all have the same admissions counselor?

It was not an admission decision. It was an email stating the following, “I know that this is an exciting time for you, with graduation just around the corner. Like you, I’m thinking about the future and how inspiring it’s been to learn more about the applicants for WashU’s Class of 2022. I just wanted to thank you for submitting your application; I truly enjoyed reading it. I particularly enjoyed your essay about maintaining your global perspective while adapting to a new environment.I know this period of waiting to hear from schools can be difficult, so please feel free to reach out. We’ll be in touch with you again soon,”

He received the email on February 28th

If there has been no email or other communication from the school since submitting the application, should one assume that admission is highly unlikely?

no

I believe that’s not true @hockeymom2000 . Likely letters are only sent to a few of the top applicants, say about 400-500. Applicants who haven’t received such a letter have the same chance as any other RD student. Considering that WashU is a very selective school, this chance is considerably lower anyway. Likely letters are only indication of the fact that the college is trying to recruit some applicants that it believes will get loads of other offers and finds a perfect fit for their university.
Not receiving a letter does not mean you won’t be admitted at all.

Does anyone know if RD decisions might come out this week? WashU released them around 10th in 2016. Last year their whole timeline was a week later so decisions came out on 15th, but since this year it’s a week earlier again, could they be this Friday?

When did they release in 2017?

@minimango 15th March

I posted this a few weeks ago, but I’ll repost. I expect decisions to come out this week.

FYI - The RD date for the past few years is as follows:
2017 - 3/15 (Wed, around 5:00 EDT)
2016 - 3/10 (Thurs, around 5:30 EST)
2015 - 3/9
2014 - 3/10

Probably Friday @HoosierDaddy1995 ? Since decisions never come out on Saturdays. Or do they?

I would say Thursday or Friday @IntApp2022. It has seemed like such a long wait, but now I can’t believe it is so close. With WashU a bit earlier than our other schools, it will either make the late March schools wait easier or more nerve racking.

Am I crazy or did ED decisions come out at the same time as they did last year even though there was an earlier due date this year? And the scholarships had an earlier due date as well. Did the scholarship notification come out early this year? I don’t want to get my hopes up if last year decisions were out on 3/15, and then here are thinking it’ll be early because of the earlier application due date, but who knows?

@HoosierDaddy1995, you are so confident! Am I missing something? I do hope you are right.

@Winky1 I think scholarship notifications came out a week earlier this time.

@HoosierDaddy1995 I know! I’m dying of the curiosity. I don’t have a great chance being an international applicant with financial need, but still. Knowing for sure will feel better.

Am I correct that Washu only snail mails decisions?

Maybe I am overly optimistic. The scholarships this year came out around the same general time as in 2016 (my oldest is a sophomore at WashU). I could be wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure for 2014-2016, decisions came out the Thursday or Friday before spring break, and this year spring break starts Saturday (probably has noting to do with it). Last year, they came out the Wednesday of spring break.

Of course, I’d rather wait until April 1 and get an Accepted than get a Rejected answer on March 9. Good luck to all.

I thought they update the portal

They will do both - portal and mail

I’m speculating again but 3/10 is a pretty reasonable date for RD decisions to be released. Friday is the last day before spring break for WashU and if likely letters and scholarship finalist notifications have been sent out, then pretty much all of the decisions have been made.

Good luck to all the RD applicants.

3/10 is a Saturday. Would they release on a Saturday?
