Class of 2023 MT Artistic Acceptance Notifications: How/When/Where

About the Montclair letter: I contacted the chair and let him know about the Congratulations, you are rejected letter. In some ways, I can’t imagine that they are not aware of this, but at the same time, how could they be aware of this and continue to let it happen. I know the letter comes from admissions and not MT, but still… Anyhow, maybe they will do something about it.

@TempGuy2 Really glad you did that. It’s a ridiculous and pretty insensitive thing to be doing. And I seriously doubt it helps them get any students. In fact, I’d suppose it has the opposite effect.

Add it to the other insensitive things that Montclair has been known to do (…see info on last audition cycle and the “underweight” / “overweight” categories that they checked off on student info sheets and then GAVE the students to hand in to other faculty. Beyond insensitive). Bad looks for Monclair.

@WTXMom (the bcc thing) @El-Cee (overweight/underweight on audition sheets and everyone commenting on Montclair’s “Congrats, you’re rejected” - yikes! - I had read these anecdotes over the last couple of years, but never put them all together in one place. Someone needs to do an intervention and @TempGuy2 contacting them is a good start.

My son was a heavier 6’3" 220 when he auditioned at Penn State in November. He’s dropped 20 lbs to help with his dancing. Wouldn’t it be ironic if they accept him as the “chubby” archetype and he showed up on campus slimmed down. Kids have to be at a weight THEY are comfortable with. Just know that typecasting happens everywhere. Not everyone can be Tracy Turnblatt or Morticia Adams. And my son will never be Peter Pan.

@El-Cee Syracuse also had body types listed on the back of their audition form. First time we had seen that. I know why they do it, but to see it in black and white was a bit shocking…live and learn I guess…

I think the latest trend in Color blind casting is also carrying over to influence shapes and sizes. Many larger ladies on Bway now…the lead in Head over Heels for instance as a “beauty”. However…all Rockettes have their legs measured. And once hired are weighed weekly/bi monthly and held to the weight on their contract or face removal. I have seen men struggle with weight and be type cast as well so I agree its not a problem just for the ladies.

@DramaLlama18 I shared this list with some other MT parents whose kids are auditioning this season. Hope it helps! My son is Class of 2022, and the following were his notification dates last year (cannot find 2 schools, sorry):

Wright St 1/24
UNCSA 2/9
Montclair 2/27
Coastal 2/28
Shenandoah 3/1
Rider 3/2
Texas St 3/4
Carnegie 3/12
BW 3/14
Point Park 3/14
Missouri St 3/24
U of Arizona 4/1

My S also got acceptance from UAB in 2/8.

@DramaLlama18 My D handed the Montclair audition sheet back last year and took herself off the list. She was very shaken by the “overweight/underweight” check boxes. It was also the end of a very long week so she was probably hasty. In any event, they will be judged, at least partially, on their looks in this profession - perhaps just not so overtly.

I’ll update the “big list” later today - thanks for all your input! It takes a village. Here’s some good scoop on TX State from the “venting” thread: Our notifications will go out in waves as we complete weekend deliberations. We do those deliberations in groups, so those notifications (priority hold, rejections and offers) tend to be staggered.

D’s portal finally changed for Rider today. She auditioned at NY Unifieds and had received a letter saying she was still being considered. After checking the portal daily (lol) she was admitted today! Very excited!!

@Jpkcmo, loved seeing your post! My son is 6’5", 258 pound football lineman who will also never be Peter Pan <3

@ac2680 Congratulations to her!!

@“boola boola” thank you!

Congrats @ac2680 !!

@NewToThis13 thanks :slight_smile:

Can someone who has auditioned at Milikin explain how the audition day is done? IS it all day? Do they provide a time slot in the morning at check in etc? I’m trying to book flights and don’t know how best to make our return since I will be flying into St. Louis and renting a car to drive the 2 hours to campus. Thanks!

@3Blessings if you decide to stay over night, do not stay in the city of Decatur but in one of the outlying towns.

@3Blessings Last year it was all day and you found out at the very end if you were accepted as a BFA MT, BFA Acting or BA. Those that had to leave early did not get their results until later so if you are able to stay if it worth it to hopefully get that acceptance in person. I’m assuming it is being run the same way this year?
