I recently heard that UF only takes between the top 10 to 15 percent of each High Schools Class which concerns me because I am an IB student with a 3.47 gpa and 4.32 HPA yet my class rank is 121 out of 365. This is because I go the the number 9 HS in the nation Suncoast Community High School. COuld uF pass on me simply because my rank isn't high enough?

It’s not so much “class rank” as UF wants to select the best students from each High School (this is common for many selective colleges). Based on how competitive a High School is, would determine what % may get offers. UF may offer only to the top 5% at one school, while they offer up to the top 15-25+% at a highly competitive school like Suncoast.

Take a look at the common data set for Florida, at table C10:

http://www.ir.ufl.edu/data_OLD_CDS/cds2013-2014.pdf

Notice the following:

Percent in top tenth of high school graduating class-76.6%
Percent in top quarter of high school graduating class- 96.7%

So it’s rare for UF to offer to anyone outside of the top 25% of their class. It happens (and I’m sure it’s happen at Suncoast in the past), but it’s rare. Keep in mind recruited athletics also make up members of the pool of students that are NOT in the top 25% of their class.

Good Luck!
