umm…I was looking at Zuma’s Stat Roster and EVERYONE who got accepted was either ranked 1 or 2 in their class.

I’m doubt I’ll make 1 or 2 (I’m a junior). Should I be worried?

yea, i'm like 20 in a class of 450?

my friend got into harvard ea, and she was maybe 8 or 9th in a class of 147, its not going to break you..plus shes not even taking a math..

yay...i have a chance then!....cuz in my school...GPA is unweighted and people who are getting 4.0 and ranked 1,2,3~ are not taking AP/college classes at all.....so it's not really fair to people who are taking AP classes and getting 3.9~ because of it...

ugh that sucks kron. yeah, im ranked 8/450,

lol, I'm in to 20%, though I do have an exponential rise in grades + consistently taking everything available to me

yea...i know....at least i'm in top 10%....barely...lol...i should kill off those lazy 4.0ers then i can truly be #1....j/k....lol

rank isn't that important, my friend got accepted ED and he was ranked 17/115

Hey sicarri, what was his SAT score?

i think 1440 or 1450, but he is a powerhouse musician, so that probably helped

I don't agree; of course if you have an amazing hook rank isn't too important, but for most people I think it means a lot more than people think. Look at the Stanford Wiki for EA and I think you'll agree with me.

I think rank is really important. I've heard my ad rep say in talks several times, "harvard likes valedictorians." whatever that's worth... but yeah, being ranked well in your class and good SAT scores are the ways you get your foot in the door at harvard...then comes the hook.

umm....you guys are missing my point....i really doubt rank is that important because it is based on unweighted GPA (At least at my school)...it would not be fair to judge someone by their rank since there are people that take easy classes and get 4.0 and are ranked 1.....what's important should be your course loads....and the grades you get in them...besides my school doesn't graduate by rank...therefore we have no valedictorian....well....ours has gpa of 2.6....so i doubt that rank is THAT significant....

i'm sure that the adcom will have considered this issue...

I don't have a huge "hook" and there are these crazy krn (no offense, im asian as well) whose life is school and have tutors for any subject. Also, my school is like top 20 public in the nation.

kron--you're an exception, probably. most schools rank based on weighted gpa.

Kenli- they do consider how competitive the school is; obviously a rank of 10 in a Mississippi rural high school isn't the same as 10 at Andover. Just do as well as you can, but don't think it's completely insignificant.

yea....obviously a rank of 50 would hurt you....if you don't have a really strong "hook"...but other than that...the fact that Harvard only accepts valedictorians seems false.

sunglasses...didn't know that...i'm so egotistic....hopefully the adcom will know that my school is unweighted and there are people who slack off and get 4.0s....weird

kenli....if you're talking about me...my life does not revolve around school...and i don't have tutors...i'm actually a part-time teacher/tutor in my school...(is this legal? i don't have a teaching degree...yet i taught a Trig class (second hardest math class offered...my school sucks) when the teacher was hospitalized for cancer)...shows how cheap my school is...if you're not talking about me....please ignore this msg...^_^

Kron, no worries. The school report asks your counselor if your class rank is weighted or not. So that won't hurt you. :)

im a valedictorian...and i was deferred early

I just talked to my counselor and found out my school doesn't even rank.

Now what...
