I created my schedule at orientation without really paying attention to where the classes were located and now I'm not sure if I can get to class on time. On Mondays and Wednesdays I get out of class on east bank (Nicholson Hall) at 9:55. My next class starts at 10:10 on the west bank (Blegen hall). Can I walk this distance in about 10 minutes?

According to my son you can walk it, but it doesn’t leave time to stop for a snack. Hopefully you will always keep a granola bar in your backpack:p

Hi,

I believe that is a bit of a time cruncher. Sometimes you’d like to stay after class and talk to your professor or a winter storm could occur, causing for your delay. I suggest you have at least 15-20 mins in between commutes for East to West Bank to decrease stress – Of course, it is possible to run there, but why not change your schedule.

I am a slow walker, so Nicholson Hall to just Coffman would take me 5 minutes. lol

Just go to the “register” option on Onestop and use Course Guide and Class Search as tools to find better times.

Best,
Kenny N

Thanks guys. I just used one stop and unfortunately for me, there is only one lecture time for these particular courses. I even considered taking a different class but that one was on the same days and didn’t solve the problem. I’ll just leave it as it is and do my best to be on time. Hopefully it’ll be fine

kamariyah…You’ll be fine. Our D1 crossed from bank to bank several times each week and it was never a problem. A moderate paced walk will get you there with a few minutes to spare. The bridge over the Mississippi has a covered walkway if it’s snowing or raining so at least half your walk will be out of the elements. It could take a little longer if you try to use the Gopher Way tunnel system, so I’d recommend staying above ground until you get a chance to really familiarize yourself with the tunnels. Enjoy being a Gopher!!

That’s no problem.

First, that’s not a hard walk. It’s only ~1/2 mile from Nicholson to Blegen, right down Pleasant St and then across the bridge.

Second, the Campus Connector bus system stops at Jones / Eddy Hall just across Pleasant St from Nicholson and then continues across the river to the Willey Hall bus stop adjacent to Blegen on West Bank.

Thanks. When I first looked at a map it seemed kind of far and I’m not good with estimations so I just wanted to make sure that I had a reasonable amount of time. I’m not worried about it anymore.

Nicholson to Blegen in 15 minutes is cake. Cut between Walter and Appleby, take the STSS ramp to the bridge, bridge takes 5ish minutes then about a block and you’re there. I’d say 10-12 minutes. I had a 15 minute passing time between Folwell and Carlson and I was late maybe twice, mostly because half of the bridge was closed and it got crowded and people tend to walk slowly.
