Class Times

I've noticed some classes meet on alternate Wednesdays. Why does Wellesley have this alternating meeting time for some classes? Are these alternate days used for lectures, discussions, or study sessions, etc?

Some classes do, but for the most part, alternate Wednesdays are extra classes. It's a compromise for classes that want to meet more than two but less than three times a week. Generally the Mon/Thurs classes will meet one Wed and the Tue/Fri class the other Wed.

In general the humanities meet two times a week and the sciences meet a full three times a week, but that's not always the rule. A lot of upper level Astronomy classes meet just twice a week. I believe Econ does the Alt thing a lot. Expect to meet more than three times a week for an intensive intro language class. Upper level Humanities type seminars meet once a week for obsenely long times- like three hours.

Of course I happen to take classes in the departments that meet EVERY Wednesday. Still trying to figure that one out myself.

Like WendyMouse said, it's the happy medium between meeting twice and three times a week. I only encountered it in my math class, and it's really not as obnoxious as it might look ... unless you're taking two Alt classes (make sure they don't conflict :-P)

Different departments have different scheduling quirks, but it all works out in the end.
