Hey everybody. I just got back home from an eventful orientation. Unfortunately, I was given a 2:45 course scheduling slot and got none of the courses I need to take from Pre-Commerce. For example MATH 1310 and ECON 2010 were both filled. The only class I got from my list of 5 was COMM 1800. Do you guys have any advice on how to get into the two aforementioned classes? Thanks in advance.

waitlist yourself for math 1310 (i bid you good luck, it was a tough, but enjoyable class :)) and check back later in august for econ to open up. you’ve got to be patient. things’ll start moving around in late august/when classes begin; don’t expect much movement on august 1st.

Join the waitlist and contact the professors by email. Ask them if they could help you get into the class via a course action form, and find out the number of people they anticipate getting into the class form the waitlist. Keep in mind that many probably want to get into those classes, so I would definitely not get your hopes up. Also, watch SIS like a hawk when classes are about to start.

Did you consider taking STAT 2120 and taking Calculus next semester?

As far as ECON 2010 goes get on the waitlist on August 1st.

Officially, Stat 2120 requires 1 semester of calc as a prereq. Some people have said it shouldn’t, but that’s what the official course listing says. If you had calc in high school, the prof might consider that sufficient for now, particularly if you couldn’t get into calc at UVa 1st semester.

If you are looking at the Comm school route you should be looking at 1210-Applied Calculus. Those courses have openings.
