Hi! Does this look like a good schedule? I have
Chem2a
Mat21a (I have Deckert, is he any good?)
Bim1 (required for my major)
Ant2 (cultural anthropology, I fulfilled the lower division English requirements so I needed a nonscience ge and I like anthropology)
Also how hard do you think it will be to change my chem or my math section during pass 1 open registration or pass 2?
Thank you!

Looks like a good schedule! I have never heard of Deckert, but his RateMyProfessor ratings are all over the board. You might want to try switching to a new professor, but he isn’t universally hated so he should be fine.

DO NOT TRY TO SWITCH CHEM! That’s all I’ll say about that. Math, you could probably try to wait list for another section. I added Math 21a during pass 2 my first quarter, and I got a pretty good professor. A lot of the people I know who took Anthro 2 didn’t like it too much, but some did. Could be hit or miss, but it’s just a GE so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Thank you! And is switching Chem really that bad of an idea? I’m doing a sport and I may have to quit if I can’t switch Chem sections. Should I just not wait lost and hope that there’s an open seat at one point?

Oh and do you know any good math teachers? Other than from rate my professor (I’ve been looking at that)? Again thank you so much!

If you want to switch Chemistry, you’ll have to find someone else to switch sections with. Do not drop it if it looks like another class has opened up. Usually they have a hold on the class during Pass 2 and you need a PTA (permission to add) number. Every quarter there are dozens of students who drop the class to switch sections only to realize not only can they not add it, but they can’t add their old section either. And the wait list is risky, because after a certain point they don’t let in anyone off the wait list, and again you’ll have to get a PTA number. You could risk it and try to crash another section that works, and then if you don’t get Chem 2A again just take it in the Winter (better curve.) But if you need/want it this quarter my suggestion would be to NOT drop the class. Maybe try crashing the other labs without actually dropping the class and see what happens.

Oh, and in terms of math professors, I know Gravner is pretty good, and I’ve heard Kouba is good. Avoid Vazirani like the plague. Marx is pretty good but his tests are horrendous, so I’d say avoid (he might be better for 21A/B.) Those are really the only four I know anything about.

Thank you so much! I hadn’t heard about all the chem issues so it’s so nice to have found out!
