Should i drop math 17a to take it with a different professor at a different time? I would have to waitlist and be 8th on the list. What are the chances of getting it? I’m really confused if I should do this :/

no…don’t do that…

I personally believe that Pass 2 should be used by those who really didn’t get any of their major classes or have noticeable personal schedule conflicts. Don’t be so worried about the time of your classes :)

i think the OP is worried about getting a diff prof, not time

oh i see. any recommendations on websites that rate professors btw?

I’m in Math 17a as well and although my professor (Benham) got really bad ratings on ratemyprofessors, I wouldn’t try and get a different professor because there aren’t enough sections of Math 17a as it is and there are already a ton of people on the waitlists. Do you have Benham too?

This may sound like a stupid question, but what exactly are “sections?”

If you look in the class schedule and registration guide, you’ll see for each CRN, there is also a section (eg: A01, A02, A03, etc).

Oh okay thanks for clearing that up. Do you think people will actually get into chem 2a and math 17a even if they’re in single digit positions on those waitlists? It seems like there’s so much demand that people registered in those classes would be afraid to give up their spots. I mean I sure wouldn’t give up my seat if I had these classes. What are the chances? sigh

For those waitlisting Chem: don’t give up yet. I’m sure they will cover this in your chem class, but there is a rule that if you don’t attend your first lab day, then you’ll be dropped from that section. So people on the waitlist should attend their first lab day because head T.A will walk around each section and mark off people that are absent and start adding people in the waitlist to any open spots. good luck!

Yes i have benham! That’s why I’m really worried because he received really bad ratings. I wanted kouba but i decided not to drop it. I’ll probably just attend kouba’s lectures or figure something out if benham’s teaching is really as poor as people described on ratemyprofessors. I’m also waitlisted for chem 2a, hopefully i can get it :/
