Classification of AES award.

So when I was admitted to UTD, they told me I had received an "Academic Distinction" award. I thought it was based on my status as a National Hispanic Scholar, but today I got a letter in the mail saying that they just now received notice of being an NHRP scholar, so apparently I got the "Academic Distinction" AES award on my own merit. That made me happy :)

Anyways, in that letter they also told me they reclassified my Academic Distinction award to the AES National Hispanic Recognition Scholarship.

I know this sounds silly, as both awards offer essentially the same financial support, but I really like the Academic Distinction title a lot better. Has anyone had any experience in changing the official classification of their AES award? I really want to change it back, but I don't know if they'll let me.

It might be that they have certain quotas for each award (if the NHRP is automatic and Distinction is separately-merit based), and another student will be able to get that allocated Distinction money. Honest,y lots of money is fantastic-- I wouldn’t deal with it, and I can’t see the school doing it (for the same level of support).

I’m also worried about the fact that the NHRP requires a class rank in the top fifteen percent. While I’m not worried about my actual rank changing much, the size of my class is decreasing by a lot. It might eventually knock me out of the top fifteen percent.

Does anyone know if the top fifteen percent requirement is needed only during my application, or do I have to maintain that status until the end of the year?
