Hello all, I am new to college confidential. I am a white male from New Jersey and will be a senior next year. Clemson is currently my #1 school. My Grandparents live in South Carolina and only a hour from the campus, so I will be visiting this summer. I was wondering what are my chances of getting into Clemson
3 Total AP classes:
AP US History (Junior year, finished with a A)
AP English (Senior Year)
AP Environmental Sciences (Senior year)
1 IB class ( My school is transitioning some AP’s into IB)
IB Chemistry (Senior year)
I’ve taken all honors classes and have gotten A’s in every subject except for physics honors and geometry honors
I don’t know how my school scales, but I have a 95 GPA
SAT: I have taken two and got a 1250, will be retaking in august to get a 1300
ACT: Took my first a couple weeks ago and awaiting the results
Ranked in the top 25% of my class ( extremely competitive class of 150 students )
EC’s: Physics club , Habitat for Humanity, Big brother Big Sister, Student Ambassador ( Went to leadership camps for this program for 2 years) , NJ state trooper youth week ( July 18-21) and perform on a nationally recognized power lifting club and I have couple state records.
Will have good letter of recommendations, etc…
Also I would like to major in either in chemistry or chemical engineering
Dear Mr. Dan00… Congratulations on those grades. It’s clear you’ve been working hard.
I suggest you look at the Common Data Set info for Clemson to get an idea of the range of scores, grades and class rank.

I suggest you start reading about Page 10 and go on from there. There are a lot of good statistics if you’re willing to put in a little work to examine the data.
In general terms… Clemson has gotten very competitive in state and particularly so for out of state. Engineering is one of their more popular majors as well… so generally one of the harder programs to get into. I would apply as soon as the application opens. It couldn’t hurt and might help.
For general admission, it is primarily a score and grade/rank based decision, so while your ECs are great for developing you as a person, not as helpful in the Clemson general admission process.
Try and keep an open mind as to the unique opportunity each school can offer you. That helps pave the way for a good outcome no matter where you attend. Good luck with the process.
I think your stats are great for Clemson but I worry because they accept based on your major and your major is very selective. I would apply with one of those majors and then another easier one as a backup. If you don’t get into your first major, they compare your stats to those applying in your second major for another chance. I would think your SAT score would need to rise to a 1400 to be completely confident in your chances based on your rigorous major. If you chose another easier major I would say you have a pretty good chance of getting in. Your rank, rigor and GPA is around the clemson range. Just work on that SAT! good luck my friend
