To be fair, it is a beautiful campus next to a huge manmade lake. The stadium is glorious too. Nice rolling hills on the horizon.
Well, as a PA girl myself…kind of (except about a fifth of the size), but the people and the weather are a lot nicer. In all seriousness, they can catch touring productions at the Peace Center in Greenville (40 minutes); D20 will get season tickets once theaters reopen. Greenville is great for a day of shopping or a night on the town. There are a lot of great locally owned restaurants; no Baby’s, but they have Smokin’ Pig with some awesome BBQ. Atlanta, Asheville and Charlotte are all within 2 hours, so they’re great day trips. There are over 100 waterfalls within 30-40 minutes, so there’s a lot of great hiking. The campus sits on Lake Hartwell, and students can sign out paddle boards and kayaks at the outdoor center. D20 is more of a geeky, artsy kid, and she always finds things to do. @burghdad DD is a senior (?), so he can give some insight from an upperclassman’s POV.
Here is a link to a video on things to do in Clemson (outside of the university itself).
It’s a small town. D21 did a video information session with a couple students last year and they mentioned they go to Greenville to shop (shopping center type shopping/Target etc).
@otto4991 Ha! I appreciate your honesty. Truly. Thank you, Hope
Thank you @Tigerwife92. I’m unfamiliar with the bbq restaurants, they are a chain, yes? Does Clemson’s student cafeteria has a sushi bar? Or is there sushi near campus?
Sushi on and off campus. It’s D20s favorite!
This is so true! My D is already seeing herself at other admitted schools and looking up roommates on FB when she is still awaiting decisions from schools like Clemson with later acceptance notifications. It is an emotional experience for them; you have to wonder if they are aware of this and what it can mean for them with many offers from them rejected, ultimately, as a result.
Thanks @Tigerwife92!
Your daughter sounds amazing! Live theatre and sushi, well done momma!!
@tigerwife92 summed it up pretty good. Although I am in the minority I found the BBQ at the Smoking Pig to be average at best. I was disappointed. Definitely different than PSU with Greenville being so close. Greenville very cool city with lots a good restaurants. Asheville NC is also only abut 90 minutes away as well.
I like their brisket and pork, but only if we get it early in the evening on certain days and only at the Pendleton location. I’m like that with the Creamery at PSU; the ice cream to me is just o.k., but not the best I’ve had. Shhh, don’t tell my MIL I said that .
I’ll have to try the Pendleton one next time I go down. So yesterday was D21’s 18th birthday and she was mad that Clemson sent her happy birthday wishes but no admission as of yet. Kind of surprised with Clemson being all about numbers only and she has 35 ACT and 4.0UW and 10 AP’s. I teased her maybe her sister is working with the admission office to make her sweat it out. That said I think she wants to go elsewhere anyway to chart her own path.
Every time this thread has notifications I check the portal
Haven’t seen a lot of new acceptance announcements lately. Has there been a pause? Anyone receive an acceptance email in the past two weeks? If so, please share stats. Thanks.
at least you know where the good food is
Ha by time she hears from Clemson she will already be moved into her new college dorm
I hear ya! My daughter has her Clemson acceptance, but she and her twin sister have a couple of schools they won’t hear from until late March!
So are we thinking a release of decisions this Thursday? What has been the pattern? I applied Nov 22 for Comp Sci and I haven’t heard anything.
Where did you hear that it might be Thursday? I’m just curious. And do they do it all via the portal or via the big orange envelope in the mail?
Daughter got her acceptance letter today (apparently received an email 1/14 and missed it). 30 ACT/3.9 unweited GPA. OOS, biology/health professional. Merit scholarship indicated, but not specified.
Boyfriend with higher ACT (slightly lower GPA), OOS, engineering, hasn’t heard anything.
Why the difference?
There are definitely no games going on behind the scenes. They’ve just been swamped with the common app and test optional surge. They also had a hiring freeze and furloughs in place because of covid, so like many other schools, it’s taking longer this year. They’re plugging along as best they can in this crazy pandemic admissions cycle. Given her stats, she may want to call and touch base (I’m remembering that high stat girl a few cycles ago whose app was “lost” in cyberspace). D20 had the exact same stats, so I’ll be curious to see what the new merit levels end up being, since that level took the brunt of the budget hit last year. D20’s loving it though; she has 5 in person and 1 hybrid, so she’s really enjoying this semester. I know your D21 will have fun deciding; she’ll have so many options, including Clemson.
