@pep901 Congrats! As for her boyfriend, it seems from watching this board that certain majors may be trickling out acceptances faster than others. My D applied business, with strong stats similar to or even higher than some of the acceptances already shared in this forum, and hasn’t heard yet. This waiting game is tough!
The vast majority of incoming freshmen do not hear until mid February (think 95%+ish). The <5% is actually less than the total number of freshmen accepted to the honors college; why? We don’t know. There are high stat students who are accepted with merit who won’t hear until mid February. I do understand the nerve wracking wait and frustration though; some of D20s schools didn’t release decisions until February or March. She committed to Clemson before she ever heard back from the others, mostly because she felt it was the right environment for her. I try to as chime in as a parent who just went through this less than a year ago and now resident, but no one except the class of '25 has had to go through this process during a pandemic; your experiences are different than any other Clemson parent, and I wish all of your students the best through this crazy time.
Thank you! It is helpful to hear from someone who has been through the process before. D21 is my first of four to navigate college admissions. I am a Clemson grad so we are extra anxious about this decision.
Thank you so much for posting this. Curious if you or anyone else here thinks Clemson will release decisions via the portal or do they still do the traditional orange packet sent via mail? Wondering if the pandemic trumps tradition this year.
They’ve been releasing through portal this year.
You still get the orange packet though. My son got an email that his decision was on the portal and a week later maybe we got the orange packet.
Tigerwife92(tried to send this just to u, but then obviously I did it wrong😑 )
I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your insight on Clemson. In a world that is so crazy and so negative right now I make it a point to see what you add on here. We toured several schools before covid and my son always said how will I be sure it’s the right school until we toured Clemson and then he knew. We r OOS and we would have loved to save the money and him go to UF. He has full bright futures and would be close to home, but I said he already has the heart of a Tiger and was ecstatic when he got the acceptance to Clemson the week before Xmas!! Now hearing u say how much ur daughter loves it and how they are going back face to face it sets my resolve even more that we will make it work!! We have friends whose kids went off this yr to schools that are so locked down and these kids are struggling with depression and some are talking dropping out! I just love hearing ur input and wanted u to know it’s appreciated and helping many of us with big decisions! Now praying merit money is a little better to offset the cost🙏🏻
Have many students here been admitted to the Health Sciences - Health Administration program yet?
To be honest, there are students who have mostly online and some who have half and half, and others like D20 who have a majority in person. It’s definitely a mix. She tried to stick to class sections within her LLC or the Honors College, which are inherently smaller to try to get as many seated classes as possible. I think the most important advice, other than try to avoid Schilletter, is to watch the OOS parent money regret trap. If you go onto the main university parent FB page you’ll see many who’ve fallen victim. There are OOS parents who feel because we’ve paid more in tuition that we are some how owed above and beyond a state school experience, something akin to a private institution. If the dining hall food is bad or their student isn’t having a great social experience, the complaints begin or end with “for the amount we’re paying.” It is a slippery slope of disappointment, if you have the “I could’ve paid half of this for him/her to go in-state” eating away at you in the back of your mind. It’s definitely something for parents and students to truly think about before committing. I think there are some parents who maybe should’ve said “no” to their students. Is everything perfect, no, but I was blessed with a very low maintenance kid. I think it’s all in setting expectations (yours and theirs) ahead of time.
Same and I have twins. Both have significant merit to other schools and have somewhat moved off their interest of Clemson due to these delays.
D20 turned down our then in -state options (UNC and NCSU), so I know what it’s like to turn down a “good deal.” Unfortunately, there was no amount of money savings that was going to magically make her like either school. If you decide as a family any OOS state school is the best option for your child, I recommend embracing the choice and letting go of the “what ifs.” That was probably the hardest part for the parents of the class of '24, since everyone was still in the “this covid thing will be gone by summer” mode, before the true economic impact was felt. There was probably more buyers remorse across the board with college choices last year than typical years.
I appreciate the feedback. Yes we know no school is perfect but we all loved Clemson on our visit. We feel college is a unique experience and our son has busted his butt to get into where he wants and try to get merit money. I do hope things open back up more for next year! I definitely don’t see us having “buyers remorse” but we have told our son he is never stuck at a school. If it’s not a fit he can finish out that yr and transfer. What is this we need to know about avoiding Schilletter. Not familiar with that🤣. We have lots to learn.
it’s the older dining hall. It’s been a running joke for at least 30+ years since DH was there. It’s the most convenient if you live on east side of campus, but I think they all prefer Core (McAlister) or Douthit where there are more options.
Does anyone know how much Clemson factors demonstrated leadership and extracurriculars into their decisions?
None. Clemson admission is based on nothing more than GPA/Class Rank and test scores.
When it comes to applications for honors college then they examine all the other things like leadership, extra circulars etc.
Running joke foe obvious reasons…lol
@burghdad many colleges that don’t view applications holistically use the high school’s familiarity with the college/university, strength and admission history when a student is considered on the fence. (Ex: an OOS full pay, 3.7 gpa, 1250 SAT at an elite private high school). Does Clemson fall into this category?
Well I wasn’t going to type the nickname luckily the other campus options have greatly improved over the years.
My daughter really like the options at Douthit when she lived there last year.
Does Clemson usually release on Thursdays?
