not seeing any letter in mine. I also am confused, is this just financial aid or is this merit? Cause if I just set up all this crap for financial aid (which we won’t get) I’m gonna be annoyed
you see merit under those letters
ok thanks! Hopefully it comes soon. I imagine since UofSC released theirs yesterday that its coming. And for Clemson admin who are reading…if you give my daughter more then UofSC she will commit lol
no it says that the information is still unavailable i’m assuming they’re still uploading everyone’s
When does everyone think we will hear about merit?
The first thing that popped into my head was the 12th of never, but hopefully it’s closer to somewhere in the general vicinity of the 12th of March
I’m not sure why Clemson is waiting so long to release merit. My daughter received the Gator Scholarship from Florida one week after see was accepted. Clemson made the decision much easier for my daughter by doing nothing for 3 1/2 months. I enjoyed reading all the great post about Clemson. Best of luck to everyone.
And sadly waiting so long only to have them not offer much I bet
Mine had a dream the other night that she found out her merit amount from Clemson, so it’s obviously on her mind.
It’s also as I suspected why Clemson fell out of clear favorite. She been trying not to like it too much because of the financial uncertainty. Based on her response to the dream if the amount was good, I think Clemson would be back into #1 at this point, but the not knowing for so long has really confused her feelings about Clemson. All the more true because she’s known from another place that actually checks more of the ‘what she said were her criteria’ boxes for months, but deep down Clemson is her first love.
If they want to tell people “yay you’re accepted and you’re getting merit” early that’s great. If they want to say, but we won’t tell you the amount for three months, fine, but then please at least tell them when you said you would tell them.
That’s our fear too.
The only reason Clemson is even still an option for us is b/c there might be merit that makes it competitive with her other choice. But if there’s not - man it would be helpful to know by now so we can just move on! But we’ll patiently wait until March 15.
I do think it’s unwise on Clemson’s part to wait so late. In my daughter’s heart, she’s ready to commit elsewhere.
It’s ridiculous in many early acceptance letters they stated scholarship information would be given in February. It is unprofessional that they pushed back til Mid March and still cannot give a specific date. I was invited to the Orange Carpet Scholarship event which is March 18th so I believe info will come out sometime next week.
I honestly don’t get why merit isn’t listed with acceptance letters for all schools.
Agreed. Applied in September, accepted in December with notice of merit. Sent FAFSA in October. Told And just today they tell me they need more info for the FAFSA, when they told me I’d find out in Feb.
This is state directed; I think UofSC may have just released their’s, so Clemson’s should be soon. Keep in mind Clemson’s overall budget was cut from $1.35B (19/20) to $1.33B in (20/21) and proposed $1.28Bish (21/22) [based on the last budget proposal I saw] to spite added covid expenses. They were directed by the state to cut spending to offset any financial impacts of Covid (i.e. furloughs, hiring freeze, procurement curtailment, contract compensation reductions and reallocations) without increasing tuition or fees for 20/21. As of 1/20/21, the estimated total impact of covid was $20.6mm (FY 19/20), $61.7mm (FY 20-21) with a projected total impact of $120-180mm. They are not playing games; they’re trying to do the best they can with the proposed budget. Retaining employees, creating a safe environment and student services will probably be at the top of the priority list. Hope you hear soon; good luck!
I’m pretty certain this new covid package will more than makeup for the shortfall in the state budget
Not to mention how much colleges got in cares funding. I’m just not buying it that schools lost all this money. Many charged their students FULL tuition despite being online. Plus some didn’t even get refunds for dorms. If they lost money it was mainly due to students taking gap years this year due to being online and not willing to pay that kinda money. sorry just venting. We didn’t get near what we thought for UofSC, even despite a high GPA and I’m not expecting much if anything from Clemson.
My son was SOOO excited about Clemson. He was accepted and told he’d be receiving a merit scholarship in November. But because of the LONG wait for the money (with only a notification that it would be late, not an apology), he is leaning elsewhere now. Sad.
Thankfully, we did get a refund for room and board and fees from Clemson for the time the campus was closed (approximately 4 weeks). No, we didn’t get a tuition decrease, but I know how much the licensing fees and increased software fees have been, plus the loss of revenue from games (not ticket sales, that’s another budget), loss of corporate sponsorships, increased cleaning costs (Clemson buildings are open for business), covid testing costs(15k-19k tests/week or roughly $500k+/week), quarantine housing (for Clemson it has been an entire hotel since last spring)…these are some of the added costs that were not originally in this year’s fiscal budget. Schools have taken an enormous hit along with budget cuts from the states on top of increased costs. I don’t know what other states are doing, but I do see what Clemson is doing. They received $13.6 million under cares act, of which $6.8 was mandated to be allocated to FA students. Believe me I understand the frustration and can empathize; D20 was caught in the last budget cut that slashed her expected merit level right before letters came out last February from $20k/year to $12k/year, but they cannot give what they do not have. SC state schools don’t have the luxury of multi billion dollar endowments. If my student were at say one of the ivies or wealthy privates or in UVA, UT, OSU, PSU, UNC, UM, the UCs, Pitt or many of the other publics sitting on $2.2B+ and my child was fully remote and didn’t get large reductions, I’d probably be really upset. As it stands, other than the late start in September, she’s had her butt in a seat for the most part (5 in person, 1 hybrid this semester), so I can’t really complain too much. I’ve watched her UNC and NCSU friends sit at home most of the year. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely been a lot better than her friends. I hope things work out for merit this year; with covid and TO, I would not want to be in FAs shoes of having to choose and allocate. Good luck!!
We were fortunate as my other daughter is a college sophomore. This year her school gave oos students a 22% discount on tuition, didn’t take away any of her scholarships and they gave rent relief money to their students who signed off campus leases. This week they gave her another 1000 dollars due to the cares act. Crazy that it’s oos and we didn’t even have to take out any loans. While I agree that schools lost money, I also think they stand to loose even more once they realize their yield is t quite going to be what they thought as many are not going to be able to justify the high cost and enroll.
