Yeppers! Here’s are chance to get it all out there.
Is there a link to the other thread on the financial aid/merit scholarship discussion mentioned by GetCollege19?
edit: nvm got it
I am not sure how to link but hopefully this works.
I’m also seeing the maintenance message in iROAR, hoping it’s an indication.
Anyone have any idea how much scholarship recipients can expect? Clemson’s website is seriously lacking in information, and any Google search returns a bunch of BS from websites with no actual connection to the university. I’ve received about 50% in academic merit from a number of other schools, so I’m hoping Clemson is similar.
i’ve read past reddit forums where most people only received $500-2500 per year
max academic merit last year $12k per year
From reading past cc threads and comments, it varies by year. I think max mentioned one year was $20k, and another year max was $12k or $15k with others getting $8k.
That seems kind of low for a South Carolina school. I got $108K from Furman, our resident expensive private school, and yet it seems like Clemson’s going to be the outlier in terms of merit scholarships. “Why?” is my question.
Really hoping for something substantial, I’ve already enrolled there and I can use all the help I can get.
are we supposed to be notified by email when it is released? I remember being told we would receive an email saying our admissions decision was released but I never got any email like that I just had to keep checking.
furman is private; clemson is public that is why
the cost of attending furman is a lot higher than clemson; however, UofSC does give more merit scholarships than clemson
You’ll supposedly get an email at your @g.clemson.edu email address, so make sure you have that setup (you have to setup your iROAR credentials before you can setup email).
That doesn’t really explain much; I’ve received a similar amount (relatively, according to each school’s tuition) of 45-50% from other public schools in the state and some out of state.
Sure, schools give different amounts. It just seems like Clemson’s an outlier for students with high stats.
Schools use merit to entice high stat students to attend their school over other schools the student might chose. I imagine Clemson is in a position where they need to do less enticing than other schools in SC.
True, they’re certainly the most popular choice in the state from what I’ve seen.
Clemson received around 45k applicants this year, so I don’t think they’re in need of enticing high stat students too much
Many colleges saw large increases in applicants. I think there is a general consensus that those increases are driven by applications from students who would not have been in test stat range absent TO combined with students adding more colleges to their application list in general due to uncertainty. Do we know the distribution of stats in the additional number of applications?
It will be interesting to see what happens with yield this year. Clemson actually has had a pretty low yield (25% range) compared to other surrounding state flagships. I imagine one thing Clemson is trying to crystal ball is if they saw a significant increase specifically in high stat applicants is that because that pool suddenly “discovered” Clemson and really want to attend (it’s the hot new thing and a #1 contender), or because they threw Clemson on their lists as an additional match/safety given uncertainty (i.e. a backup plan), and will likely chose another option to which they were also accepted, especially if $ is a factor for them and/or they get into a reach.
I will say while it’s anecdotal, I have seen repeated posts along the sentiment of Clemson used to at/near top of my list, but fell down/off because of the money uncertainty for so long or not enough merit money in the end.
It’s too bad that with all this college application, honors programs, scholarship $ there wasn’t a better matching system. I feel like there are often cases where student A really wanted college A and similar profile student B really wants college B, but the colleges do not know that. Then college A ends up offering more to student B and college B ends up offering more to student A.
So I wonder if the awards will be listed at midnight when Iroar is back up?
my iroar still isnt working- anyone else? (it doesnt matter because fin aid coming out tonight is too good to be true anyways!) just curious
i just checked- I still can’t click the awards tab
iROAR is back up and running, but award tabs are still empty. Really hoping for something today but I’m honestly not holding out for it.
