Can I get credit via CLEP exams after my first year of college at most colleges?

Since I'll be doing hopefully 3 majors in very diverse areas, I need to knock out as many credits as I can if I want to attempt to graduate in four years. So, basically if I prepped beforehand for say, accounting, and treated it like a self-study AP and took the test, will full credit be granted?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I realize this board is not particularly active, but please post anyways!!!!

Keep in mind that CLEP is generally for 100-200 level classes, so most students benefit from using CLEP in Freshman/Sophomore years. Check with your school for its policies - sometimes you can find a CLEP acceptance chart on the school’s website with course equivalents listed.

Why not work on the Accounting CLEP over the summer? CLEP tests are available all year long and summer is a perfect time to do this if you’re not planning to go to summer school.

^Will do, Mildred. Thanks for the heads up :)

Also, the reason I’d rather not do it this summer is because I think I’m going to try and load up on community college classes to cut my tri-degree costs down. I had a really good accounting class my Junior year, so even if I did attempt CLEP now, the info still wouldn’t be fresh and it would take a little while to re-learn…

Taking classes at the cc this summer sounds like a good idea.

I brushed up on my accounting (took it 30 years ago and needed to refresh!) using Aleks.com. It was an efficient way to do it. Basically, it’s a self-study tutorial online program.
