What are the major cliques at UT-Austin
i.e. Rich Sorority Girls, Legacy Frat Boys, Geeks, Thugs
If these are applicable then what do I need to join to get in at high places.

high places? i guess you can take the UT tower tour, you don't need to join anything to go there. you don't even have to be a student i don't think.

If you have to ask then......

also, if you are "ivy league bound" why does it matter what happens at UT?

Hey ivyleaguebound, you seem pretty concerned with the social scene at UT. Both of your posts have asked about cliques and student groups. I said it before, I'll say it again: with 35,000+ undergrad students, it's impossible for there to be an "in crowd" like in high school. You're obviously in your sophomore or junior year at a high school where popularity dominates. If you go to any decently large school you'll find about 10,000 cliques who blend with other cliques who know another guy in another clique who's girlfriend is in another clique.

And really, the only "high places" are for Longhorn football or basketball starters. If you're on one of the team's you're the cream of the crop.

But other than that, please grow up.

Yeah, you seem incredibly concerned with the social stats.

I'll tell you this much--it's way better than you'll find in the Ivy leagues.

And if you aren't Texan you will pretty much be walking around with your tongue hanging out because you will have to get used to the fact that there will be thousands of beautiful women around you--literally.

Nowhere else on earth can hold a candle to Texas women, both the state and the school.

The social scene is what you make of it. There's a place for everybody--including the loner who sits in his honors quad dorm room and writes computer code all night.

This is not a hight school. There aren't easily identifiable cliques and what the major ones are. The school is a microcosm of American society. Someone in the next freshman class will likely be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Someone else will eventually become the Governor of Texas. And another will be a schoolteacher. And another will be a homemaker. And another will sit on the Drag and ask for your spare change while strumming a six-string missing 4 strings (real experience) instead of getting a job. There are all sorts of people at UT, from all sorts of background.

But yes, the biggest man on campus student wise, no matter when you go, is going to be the starting quarterback for UT, followed closely by the starting running back (the exception came during the Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams eras, when the running back came first). The rest of the football team is also highly regarded, as well as the basketball team and the rest of the varsity athletes. Other than that it's pretty much equal footing.

Quit worrying about the social scence. It's not that important.

Georgia, Bama, Carolina, Ole Miss and their states can all hold candles to Texas Women.

It's mostly the starters for football and basketball that are highly regarded, the rest of the varsity athletes don't really get respect.

Well I beg to differ, namely because the Carolina girls just aren't as hot and the other 3 aren't (on average) as smart.

Texas girls are fine AND intelligent, a great combination.
