Clothes for girls?

I know this can depend on the college, but what kind of clothes should I bring to college? Like, how many jeans, shirts, etc. etc.? Shoes? Swimsuit? And should I bring formal clothes also?

hey where are you going felix?

Lots of jeans and t-shirts! However, if it's going to be really hot when you first get there, I would bring shorts and tank tops first and not quite as many jeans and t-shirts. You can always get parents to bring or send them to you later when it's cooled off some. Contrary to what some people say, no one cares if you're wearing a shirt from your high school. I see people all the time with "So-and-So High School Soccer" shirts or something similar, it's not a big deal. However, do get some shirts with the college logo/name on it too (have parents purchase these as they will probably be ridiculously overpriced).

Get some nice tennies, because you're going to be doing alot of walking. Or get some really nice sandals/flip flops that won't start rubbing your feet after you've been walking in them 10 minutes. You definitely need tennies though, not just for walking but for exercising and such like that too. Rainboots are REALLY nice for those downpour days when the rain is blowing sideways and the walkways are completely flooded in 5 minutes. Alot nicer than sitting in a cold lecture hall for an hour with wet shoes and socks on (I know this from personal experience).

I would have a swimsuit handy, but only 1 unless you're doing ALOT of swimming as exercise or on a team or something. (They're also good if your friends say, hey let's go lay out and get some sun in the quad! and you have a swimsuit available for that and don't have to wear a tank top and shorts and have funny lines)

I would also recommend having maybe one semi-formal dress on hand for random events that you may hear about happening on or near campus (example-- dinner and dancing, residence hall association formal, etc). If you are joining a sorority, however, you may need more dresses than that, or you'll have to go buy one whenever the sorority has formals (usually at least 2 a year).

I'm going to Dartmouth next year...

at my school its good to have a lot of comfy clothes because many times ppl don't dress up. so bring jeans, tshirts, polos, sweats, and lots and lots of hoodies lol. also bring some nice outfits to "dress up" when you go out like a nice tank top and nice jeans or something. and like 1 or 2 dressy outfits if you have interviews or awards ceremonies. basically the same clothes you have at home, when you get to school you'll be able to see the popular styles so wait to buy a lot of new clothes til then. good luck at school in the fall :)

Do people wear sweatshirts a lot? That's pretty much my winter uniform. Sweatshirts and jeans. And I'm realllly hoping I won't need to change it =) except a lot of my sweatshirts are from my HS, come to think of it. Oh, well.

yes hooded sweatshirts are pretty much the unofficial college uniform during the winter. and dont be afraid to where ur hs sweatshirts a lot of ppl do actually, just buy some of your college's ones too. ppl also like hoodies from ae, a&F, hollister, all the same types of stores that were popular in my hs.

I don't know if it's been said, but if you plan to go to parties at all, make sure you have some cheap stuff that you look cute in and aren't worried about getting messy. I know I brought a few cute things that I love but I never wear them cause I'm always owrried I'll (or someone else will) spill beer on it, or I'll sit on something sticky or fall down or something. So make sure you have clothes that you feel attractive in that you don't worry too much about getting messed up. Also comfy cute shoes. You will never wear a pair of stilletos to a party. Also make sure that the cute comfy (like, nice flip flops or low heels) shoes you would be okay with stepping in not so awesome stuff (again, nothing you would worry over ruining). This is coming froma girl who maybe goes to a frat once or twice a month, so if you have anything close to a social life, even if you don't drink I guarentee you'll worry that someone else will spill on you (and people DO).

my wardrobe consisted of a few pairs of jeans, a lot of comfy pants (non jean material), some sweats, a lot of different colored pajama pants that i wore as regular pants, t-shirts, polo shirts, cargo pants, maybe one or two pairs of shorts, some tank tops, a bathing suit for hot tubs (some of my friends had them), flip flops, nice black shoes (that you can wear for formal events.. like a presentation), black socks (to wear with the black shoes for the formal presentation) sneakers (more than one pair.. you don't want to have drenched sneakers and then no dry ones to wear), a ton of socks, etc and hoodies are a must. everyone wears hoodies. also some type of dress clothes.. either nice pants and a nice shirt, or some type of nice dress or business attire. you never know when you'll have to dress up nice for a class or for an interview.

yeah-- i'd bring dress clothes, business casual type things. even if you're not getting involved in greek life (where there are formals), you may know someone who will want to bring you as a date, or there may be other opportunities to dress up at your school.

i'm known as a serious overpacker. i don't ever need a bathing suit at school-- maybe i'll wear it once or twice all year, if that -- yet still i bring them.

hoodies are the unofficial college uniform. so are jeans and tshirts. and honestly, your hoodie and tshirt collection tends to grow exponentially in college. bring more than one pair of sneakers if you can.
