For those upperclassmen, I was just wondering what's a good # of t-shirts, jeans, shorts to bring to a place that has both sunny and snowy weather. I hear in college that club t-shirts are easy to come by and I don't mind sporting those kinds of shirts. Did you actually shop for clothes in college (in a mall)?

chicks definitely do

Yeah…

I just brought all the clothes I wear constantly. Before I left for school I went through my closest and gave away anything I never wore. And then after you have done that, if you have like three button down white shirts, bring one if you are not going to be needing it a lot and if you have X number of black heels bring your one fav pair and so on.

Bring 2 weeks of shirts (12), bring some undershirts (white tees to wear in your dormitory), bring about 6 pairs of jeans.

Wash everything every 2 weeks.

Bring about 18 pairs of socks…people’s feet get stinky.

^
or you can wear sandals everyday and not need socks like me.

6 pairs of jeans? Sheesh, do you get around to wearing all of them? I was just fine with 2 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of jeans, and 1 pair of slacks. This is for guys of course. Girls are different.

Also, you can pick up a lot of free or very cheap shirts on campus.

I don’t have 6 pairs of jeans myself, no.

I only have 1 pair. And I have 4 pairs of navy-blue khakis. I thought doing what I do was abnormal, but I guess I was wrong.

What? 10char

no one wants to be the guy who wears the same shirts every week. 10-14 shirts sounds like a good number, and then get a pack or two if white throw-away tees.

you could get away with 3 decent pairs of jeans easily. dont forget running shorts etc in case you want to pick up exercising or already plan to.

jeans - 4
shorts - 2
shirts - at least 10

I probably had about 5 pairs of jeans, 5 pairs of other types of pants, 8 pairs of shorts, and 7 pairs of shoes and sandals. I had at least 30 shirts. This is probably not typical and I did not live in a dorm.

lol
so how often do people usually wash clothes at college?

@ batdoi

I would wash my clothes every two weeks.

@ phade:

What? 12 is a good number of shirts to bring. Wearing 1 shirt a day, and don’t dress up a day during the weekend or wear a undershirt (plain old white t or tanktop or something) on the weekends. Or you could just wear one of your shirts that you wore before over again. This is definitely manageable.

Unfortunately I wish I had a lot of shirts to chose from but I don’t. I don’t have a huge wardrobe.

he meant 2 weeks of shirts does not equal 12. it equals 14.

^ You don’t need to wear a new shirt for every single day. That’s why I said get undershirts (white t-shirts) to wear in your dormitory, wear around, etc. You shouldn’t dress up or wear something new every single day if you’re really limited as far as your wardrobe is concerned.

That’s why I said bring 12 shirts and buy some undershirts (tanktops or white tees). Having 12 casual shirts to wear can last you two weeks.

this question is obviously going to be different depending on who you ask. everybody approaches their dressing/fashion differently. for me, i want to somewhat maintain my fashion sense in college because i was pretty well-dressed before. my advice to the OP is to just bring everything that was in your regular rotation back at home.

for me, that’s gonna be about 30 shirts (long/short tees, polos, buttondowns), 4 jeans, 3 dress pants, 4 cargo shorts, 5-6 basketball shorts, and about 8 pairs of shoes (3 casual shoes, 2 bball shoes, brown dress shoes, black dress shoes, slippers). and for the winter months, don’t forget a good jacket and a crapload of sweatshirts.

*bookmarking this page for when i’m buying stuff for the fall lol

I’m with blu_g8orade. A ton of shirts (I don’t even have a number. Will definitely be going on a shopping spree at the mall close to my college; it has a 4 floor nordstrom, a Lacoste, a JCrew, an H&M, etc)… 5 jeans, 5 chinos, at least 10 pairs of shorts… will probably get more of all of them. For shoes I’ll bring 2 pairs of flip flops, 2 pairs of topsiders. Will be getting slippers and dress shoes.

lucky. I was amazed at the shopping in scottsdale and just phoenix in general. I’d love to have a nordstrom and whatnot up here.

How often will formal clothing be needed? I have 2 suits but I don’t want to bring them both.

^ same question

If 12-14 shirts is good, should one or two of them at least be formal long sleeve collared shirts?
