I’m curious about what you can do besides academics at Brown University. Are there any clubs that you can join with no prior experience and how much free time should you leave for yourself to do homework and relax?

300 clubs. Usually no prior experience required.
The Brown website won’t let people who don’t have an account access the detailed list of clubs.
That’s annoying, if you’re going to ADOCH though I’m sure you can get a list there or get in touch with someone who can give you a list. If you can’t, i’d try contacting someone at either the Student Activities Office (SAO) or University Finance Board (UFB).
Really depends on the group. The Brown Band, for example, welcomes students with no prior musical experience. There’s a huge “student activities fair” each September where you can find out about stuff going on on campus and join the listservs.
Just had to click a few links on the website: http://studentactivitiesoffice89668.orgsync.com/BearSyncPublicSearch

My daughter is in the Brown Band, and they are a welcoming, happy group of hard working students that like to have fun. You don’t have to be a great musician to join the band.
Very, very, very, very true.
