I've been wondering about getting myself involved with well reputated societies in which acquiring a leadership position will mean something (obviously this is a possibility junior/senior year? and I mean those that do a lot of service work and are highly regarded). I know that in order to get involved you have to go to rush...but there is bound to be some organization that is really special and exclusive and requires earlier admission. Could anyone share with me about the latest dates during and after the summer month where I can get ready and involve myself in something meaningful?

Also, I don't know much about carolina kickoff. I read that only 180 people get selected (is it selected or on a rolling basis type of thing...where I have to sign up asap after may 1?). Basically, what type of things does it include? People may think I'm wandering too far...but I thought to pursue these curious questions since the student decisions deadline is already around the corner, so most people are over this facet and are looking well and beyond.

Just wanted to say that you absolutely do not have to rush to get involved in service work or other clubs.

As for CK, it’s partly first come first serve but also depends on your application. You have to be really excited about UNC basically. Hopefully less than 180 excited students don’t sign up before Sunday night because I’m not going to be able to get it in at midnight. What I understand is that it’s basically like UNC spirit camp. You get to meet a whole bunch of people and do bonding activities and learn all the cheers and stuff. They also have professors come to talk to you about your areas of interest and have some a capella and dance and other performances for you. You also get to move in early, which is a big plus.

thanks jessimo, I hope that not a lot of ppl don’t fill up the space for CK by sunday too. :p

I wish I could sign up for CK, but I’ll be performing at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland until August 19th. Going to cut it awfully close on the way back for orientation, come to think of it. Let’s hope my flight doesn’t get delayed.

^ I’m impressed! That is some world-class boasting.

Sign up ASAP for CK and/or get your application in as soon as possible. A lot of people do end up being rejected, so make sure that you do the following:
- Actually put effort into your application
- Show that you’re fun/humorous
- Submit a good picture of you
- If you’re OOS, emphasize that you’re OOS. If you’re in state, try to emphasize as much as possible why you want to go to CK. They give preference to OOS and people who are from farther away counties (i.e. if you’ve never been to Chapel Hill before in your life). Try to play this up as much as possible if you can.
