Hey guys,
I'm going to UIUC College of Business as an incoming freshman and unfortunately, I'm clueless about dorms and how to apply.

If anyone had the time to post maybe some general descriptions of the dorms in UIUC?
I'm probably doing University Housing and am looking for a social atmosphere. It'd also be cool to know if particular areas held particular majors. Like I'm a business major, do b-majors typically go to a certain place?

I have no idea what PAR/FAR is or ISR things like these. Could someone tell me all the dorms and how they are?

Also, how would I apply to these dorms? Do I apply to just university housing or do I choose a specific dorm name?

If there's a link to info about all the dorms of UIUC and how to apply to them that'd be so helpful.

Thanks.

I am applying next year to COB at UIUC can you share your stats so I can compare my for admission?

I have a friend at UIUC (engineering) He was in Forbes (six pack) Very social and fun. You will get a packet with housing and they ask you to rank your choices. I think you do it online when you accept your admission. There is a check list of stuff to do.

Unfortunately when you apply to university housing, there’s a really good chance you won’t get the dorms you want. It doesn’t matter how early you submit it. Once the deadline hits, all the applications are put in random order, and people will be placed based on preference in that order. I had friends that wanted ISR and were put in 6pack, friends that wanted 6pack but were put in PAR, etc. The whole process is somewhat of a mystery. Basically, if you choose university housing, prepare to be placed anywhere.

Since you’re a business major, most of your classes will be on the southwest side of things (wohlers, business instructional facility, david kinley hall), so I’d say try to live in 6pack. otherwise you will probably be taking lots of gen eds that are all over the quad area, so basically just try not to live at PAR or FAR because they are kind of far away from everything (although they have pretty decent bus service).

there have been tons of other threads on this board about dorms, so run a search and you’ll see different people’s takes on the different options. if it helps for reference, 6pack = ikenberry north or ikenberry south. same neighborhood.
