Prodesse…stay hopefull! My son looks nothing like these kids, which we had been told earlier in the process and was a factor, I have to admit, in deciding not to audition.

Megan Hilty is pretty short.

Update from the Allied: One guy accepted to CMU, looks like from a phone call today but don’t quote me on that. Not sure for MT or Acting yet.

My daughter met most of the 1st year class during the sleeping bag weekend program and said there were no tall girls (i.e. over 5’6’’, 5’7") and many in the 5’0" to 5’5" range.

I have it on pretty good information (sorry, can’t reveal the source) that CMU is not finished making all the acting calls.

Telemarketer just called with a Pittsburgh area code. WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!!! As if this waiting isn’t torment enough.

Oh. that sucks!

Hate that!

HAHA! I totally got that Pittsburgh telemarketer call too. Good LORD!

Ok! I admit it!

It was me.

ActingDad, I like that height range for the girls (D is 4’11")

Ugh! My D is 5’8"!! We will have to have the accepted applicants post their heights so we can see if there is any truth to this. If so I hope next year they want tall girls to offset these short ones. :-)

omg that CMU video looks like a freakin’ Abercrombie ad!

There definetly were short girls in the current freshman class but at my D’s audition they said they appreciated the fact that she is tall (5’11’’) so I guess they are intersested in all heights

Soooooo does anyone have any idea when I can stop holding my breath?

Being extremely attractive does not mean they are more talented than kids at other schools! My kids are attractive kids but they like character acting. The parts are meatier and those actors seem to not get followed around by the paps as much.

Who isn’t attractive in their early 20’s? Come on. The real credit goes to the videographer, lighting, editing. It is well shot and deliberately flattering as it should be. Absolutely gorgeous kids for sure but I’m sure they are as flawed as anyone.

There are quite a few senior showcase videos (from last year anyway) on YouTube. Some are staged like this one and others are just raw performances. All of the kids are full of life and gorgeous and they are all sizes, shapes and colors. CMU doesn’t have a lock on that for sure. Something about these theatre kids is just magical.

I put up the video just for fun, I didn’t realize it would get such a reaction!
But you have to admit, halfokum, that none of the men in particular are “character” types. I agree that many of the girls are fairly normal looking, but the guys are quite handsome and 3/4 of them are over 6ft according to their resumes.

Well, my kid has no chance there if this is what they are looking for. He looks about fifteen, still had his braces on at his audition, and is a small, slim character type who does pathos extremely well. Not that we were expecting anything. He is so happy with his choices. But the video was interesting to watch! Then I think of many of the big hit TV shows like The Office or 30 Rock and others with their quirky characters…

Mommy5 of course you just made me watch it again. I think the women are stunning as are the men. Though I do see one or two of the men that could play Mr. Rogers if you take away the partial beard and change them into a cardigan. I still say it is very well shot and there was care put into what they were wearing but they are LOVELY all! Heck I bet half of them were freezing. Where is the down parka?

Ewanes, no way did these kids arrive on campus looking like they do today. Boys change A LOT from Senior year in HS to Senior year in college. I’ve got one myself. He’s almost 17 and although 6’2", he’s more of tall gangly string bean than anything that would resemble any of these lads. But he’ll have his day.

We just returned today from a visit to Carnegie Mellon. It was our first college visit, in fact. We toured the drama school, and what struck me most was that the students all looked so happy–like they could burst into song at any moment. (They were gathered on the first floor, and I was watching from above). So do theater students always look like that? No wonder our kids want to do it.
