CMU Priority Waitlist

Dear Carnegie Mellon,

Thank you for making me wait till the middle of finals week to get rejected.

Sincerely,

Student you put on the “Priority Waiting List”

"Dear _________,

Thank you for your continued interest in Carnegie Mellon.

At this time, we’d like inform you that we are unable to remove anyone from the Carnegie Mellon Priority Waiting List. Our freshman class is currently full and we do not anticipate further openings. While we are thankful to have enrolled our freshman class, we recognize that there are many terrific candidates currently on our Priority Waiting List, and that this news is disappointing. Please know that we are grateful for the interest you have shown in Carnegie Mellon. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of you through your applications, updates, and campus visits.

A decision letter noting this outcome will be available on Where Am I in the Process on May 4 by 5:00 p.m. EST. No additional action is required at this time.

With many thanks and best wishes for your future college success.

Sincerely,

The Office of Admission
Carnegie Mellon University"

Over enrolled two years in a row oh well

@adiiiii Yes it happened to me

I’m shocked that they reached their enrollment goal again this year without going into the waitlist (except for those few SCS majors). If they overenrolled, I’m curious as to what they’re going to do next year. If they were so selective year, think how hard it’ll be for next year’s applicants. Yeesh.

Most folks that got CMU RD from my daughters school have chosen other universities. I heard the same from few other schools here. I am surprised that they still met their enrollment goal. What if the current enrolled folks get off of waitlist from other schools, would CMU then pick folks only from the regular waitlist?

According to cmu’s website, 1505 ppl enrolled this year as opposed to 1575 last year

Not as heavy an overenrollment but still pretty high. My school’s acceptance rate barely changed this year. 712 applications and 64 admitted. A good handful more (6) enrolled though for a total class of 40, which is the School of Design’s optimum goal.

@NinjaWarrior98 Not sure why you’re so miffed?
You’re almost treating the waiting list as a guaranteed acceptance. In reality, it’s far from it. Sorry about it though. :frowning:

To the people who were on the priority waitlist… Did you guys get the option to be on the “summer” waitlist? Not really sure what this whole summer thing is in the waitlist letter

@yoiheart yeah I’m assuming everyone got it but honestly it’s terrible to me. at this point they’re STILL trying to create an illusion of hope when there obviously isn’t. pls just reject me already

They did make it pretty clear in the email that it was a firm rejection-- when I called, they said the reply form was created previously when they thought they were going to have the Priority Waitlist > Waitlist movement after May 4th.

@bunandfun So did they say that we should not act on the reply form? It is just a letter with a response slip. It does not seem that it was created before when they expected PWL to WL movement.

So if we want to stay on waitlist even during summer, we reply it throught online or mail?

No they didn’t say we shouldn’t act on the reply form, just that it was created previously. You fax it in.

It seemed like she was trying to imply it was just a formality

Guys, it is AFTER May 1st…if they had open spots and wanted more students then they would have acted upon this with the use of the waitlist. The fact that practically zero waitlist kids got an acceptance shows that they are filled with students who are committed. Hypothetically lets say some of the committed CMU kids got off their waitlist for another school and drop down, i highly doubt that it would be sufficient for CMU to tap into this extended summer waitlist thing. Like the people said above me, that is simply formality. Don’t stoop that low! Carry your pride and move on
