I was admitted into Syracuse's Newhouse, which I understand is one of the most prestigious communications colleges in the nation.

After having toured today, I know that I love the campus. However, the surrounding area is a little drab, especially after touring BU. I was wondering whether living in "the middle of nowhere" (quote from my brother) studying through Newhouse is comparable to studying in BU or Carnegie Mellon, which is a short bus ride away from the heart of Pittsburgh.

Also! I am planning on studying advertising :)

At Syracuse, you do focus on the campus and the few bright spots in town ( downtown is Armory Square with lots of good stores and great restaurants; the Carousel Mall has finally filled its addition with decent chain restaurants and outlet stores). But the real attraction is the quality teaching and opportunities that Newhouse opens up. Also, the spirit around the athletics is contagious even if you have never watched a game before in your life. Because of your great Newhouse connections, you can get a summer internship in NYC or Boston and enjoy big city living then. The abroad program is one of the best in the nation (many students from other prestigious colleges attend) so that is one semester that you will spend elsewhere. It’s worthed to endure the drab weather and lack of a fun city for the education and spirit. Feel free to PM me if you have questions - I’m a parent of a soon to be SU alum.

I am a parent and have spent 25 years I. Advertising working for many well known agencies. I am now a recruiter in advertising so I see kids coming out of college all the time. Most important is being happy second is coming out of school with relevant I tear ships work experience. When I see resumes from bu and Newhouse I look for the internship experience.
