CMU vs UIUC.Cornell.Northwestern for Double majoring ECE & BME

I'm wondering where's the best if I want to double major in Electrical & Computer E and Biomed E. Well UIUC ranked the best among them, but my family is a low-income family and I'm an OOS student to UIUC so my I probably couldn't afford its OOS tuition. Also, personally I'm a really urban person, and I'm pretty analytical. I know Cornell's pretty rural and Northwestern isn't that good in ECE comparing with other three, so I'm basically choosing between UIUC and CMU. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Well if you can’t afford UIUC I’m not sure if you can afford CMU since it gives out pretty bad financial aid

But ignoring money, I would choose cmu because uiuc is in a pretty small town and while cmu is in a large city and has a better program in ece and biomed engineering. c:

CMU’s biomed program is designed as a double major, and, as such, is much easier to complete than a typical double major within engineering. I’d say about 1/4-1/3 of the students in Materials Science & Engineering in a given year double in biomed, and from what I got from my friends doing it there wasn’t a whole lot of extra strain. A few were even able to get their senior capstone project to count for both classes, which knocks out a huge hurdle in your senior year when you’d be job/grad school hunting.

Well thanks for all your responses
The urban vs rural issue is always the reason why I lean toward CMU…

Both CMU and UIUC are excellent choices for ECE. CMU may have an edge though for undergraduate studies due to smaller class sizes, greater individual attention and better undergraduate research opportunities.

Come back after you get into CMU…?

I would seriously consider Cornell (again, after you get in), since it has decent financial aid, like the other Ivies. Of course, if you wouldn’t be happy there then don’t bother.
