Received general acceptance letter to UT back in October 2009 for Fall 2010 admission. When can acceptance/denial be expected for Cockrell School of Engineering?

Are you in the top 8%?

I think they look over later for spots that aren’t filled. I have a question though, when are engineering honors acceptance letters handed out because a friend has received their plan II honors acceptance.

I don’t think Engineering has sent acceptance letters. Maybe around Late Feb - March? Not sure. I’m pretty sure I would be accepted, but I haven’t received a letter yet.

XoKiwiKisses - Is percentile relevant to the timing of acceptance or rejection letters? In other words, are acceptance letters submitted earlier for a certain tier?

8% with 31 ACT

I don’t know if they’ve actually gotten a physical letter yet but a good hand full of my friends told me that they got the acceptance online into engineering about the same week they applied in October. I know that at least one was in MechE and the others were in Aerospace or something.
Then again, I’d say that my stats are on par/better than theirs and I have to yet receive my acceptance from BME. I was told that I should have news by March though…

What major did you apply to specifically?

Oops, I mean they haven’t sent HONORS acceptance letters. I got my acceptance into Electrical Engineering back in November through both a physical letter and on the online status check.

Frever - Applied for Mechanical Engineering. Nothing online yet.

Son got accepted into electrical engineering back in October. Still waiting to hear re. honors.

I’ve heard of other borderline BME’s who are still waiting also. They’ve been accepted to the Univ but not the major yet.

I applied to Cockrell, but I’m out-of-state and I don’t expect to hear anytime soon.

My friend that got accepted to Mechanical Engineering had a 30 ACT (33-ish in Math) and was around 6% and I know that he applied on a Monday in October and got his online acceptance that Friday. I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t have any incredible hooks, so going off of that, I don’t know why you weren’t accepted as quickly.

and @ag54
When you say that you’ve heard of other borderline BME’s who are waiting, does that mean you know people who have been accepted? What kind of stats do you think are considered borderline?

My son was e-mailed before Christmas that he was accepted into Engineering Honors, and received letter after Christmas. He still has not heard from Plan II

I applied in November for Chemical Engineering. Top 8%. Haven’t heard back yet…kinda irritating but I already committed to UT. Has anyone gotten accepted to Chemical Engineering? :/

don’t worry. I only got my acceptance into engineering in March and I know other people who did too.

Sorry, I didn’t get back on this, I missed it. :)

The people I know who haven’t heard back and are “borderline” are top 10% people, but between say 7 and 10% who don’t have really high math scores to push them over the bump. It also depends on the major they’ve applied to and the numbers of applicants in that major/competitiveness of the major.

I’m basing this on both the information session and the meeting we had with the admissions people and the engineering advisors.

Case in point - my son and his friend are both ranked 7%, they both applied to engineering, one to electrical, the other to mechanical, one had a 36 math score, the other not as high, the one who applied to electrical is in, the one who applied to mechanical has not heard yet. I can’t say whether it’s because of the test score or because of the major, maybe both, but I would say “borderline” for the one because he is right on the edge, and hopefully will get in mechanical. (fingers crossed!!!)

but do you have any information specifc to BME, ag54?

My son & I attended a presentation by the BME dept for HS juniors last year. They take so few (ie 100) students, that the lady said the almost never get past the top 2% while admitting. It is apparently MUCH easier to start in a different engr discipline (preferably one using the same track) and transfer OVER the following year.

BME as an undergrad degree is seriously risky jobwise, so I wouldn’t recommend it as a final destination - especially if you want to stay in this part of the country. They told us the seniors typically split (1/3 to med school, 1/3 to grad school & 1/3 to employment).

Good luck!

Only specific to the people I know who are waiting on a BME acceptance,

But, I second what the above poster said. This is the information we were given as well.

So is engineering honors rolling admission or has everyone in the program already been accepted?
