@midclassdad Sorry to hear that! I was rooting for your son. I was definitely disappointed for mine. But have to say . . . after reading through some of the threads pertaining to rejections and appeals, I am now just really feeling thankful for acceptance into UT engineering. Many kids with outstanding stats weren’t accepted. At least ours are in!
Ditto for above (rejected thru MyStatus)
If we are in honors, do we have to live in honors housing?
I got a rejection email. I was so excited when I saw “Congratulations,” but it turns out that it was a congratulations for getting into Cockrell and I got rejected from EHP EHP admissions is the biggest tr0ll known to man. Wasn’t really expecting an acceptance though, so I’m pretty ok with it. I was hoping for scholarships because OOS is expensive, so I may end up at Illinois because of my offer there even though UT is my top choice and I must be irl friends with @FutureOilBaron
Congrats to everyone who got in, and to everyone who got rejected, keep your heads up!
Do not worry if you didn’t get into honors!! It’s not that big a deal.
Does engineering honors benefit you in any way for course registration? Are any courses available to honors students that aren’t available to all students? Do honors students receive more extensive advising? What are the benefits besides $$ and honors housing option for those who want to live in the quad?
@MaineLonghorn I wish it wasn’t that big of a deal, but I’m in a bit of a rut financially and losing the opportunity for merit scholarships is a bit of a game-changer for me. I’d like all the opportunities for scholarships that I can get
@goincrazy I think that there are smaller class sizes for honors courses. It’s a great opportunity in a school as big as UT. There are also more opportunities for more individualized interaction with professors, which is great for learning as well as networking!
@imthereal I don’t think Cockrell has separate honors classes…
It is fine. I was mainly looking for some scholarships as we are OOS. The overall price is very steep with out any scholarship. Sorry to hear about your son’s honors too. But you are right about admissions, particularly for branches like Chemical. I am glad my son got in, that too as OOS.
When I was in the engineering honors program, the only honors courses available were calculus and physics. I had a horrible HS physics course, so I was kicking myself for getting myself into a class surrounded by people who were bright and much better prepared than I was! That was an eye-opener for me.
@midclassdad I feel your pain with the OOS cost of attendance. Good luck to your son, wherever he ends up going!
@goincrazy I thought so, but maybe not, haha. Sorry if I gave incorrect information.
EHP doesn’t involve curriculum so there are no honors classes
Actually, I think there are honors classes m8. “Honors classes are typically smaller and more rigorous than regular classes and offer an atmosphere that encourages intellectual exploration and engagement.”

To clarify, it seems that being in an honors program allows you to take any “honors-designated” class, regardless of which college’s honors program you’re in. For example, if you’re in EHP, you can take an honors writing class.
