Cockrell Engineering Honors Acceptance Letters

@FlyingWombat‌

I apologize for any disappointment in hearing this, but I applied on December 8th (the last day possible I believe), and I have already heard back. I don’t know how else they would be releasing decisions, but don’t give up!

@ClassicalCollege They are just considering those with the highest SAT scores for the first wave. After that they will consider the second tier of students and then the marginal candidates last.

@FlyingWombat Application date has nothing to do with it, unfortunately. UT Cockrell considers applications for EHP in order of admission into one’s major. Though they released everything at once in February, they certainly had an internal system by which they tracked students before notifying them.

Really, hats off to everyone already accepted, those were some impressive stats!

Again, good luck to all!

@imthereal EHP essay? I thought it was just ‘write 5 sentences that accurately describe yourself’

@uptonoliver‌ THANK GOD OMG I WAS FREAKING OUT SO MUCH LOOOOOOL.

Does anyone have a general idea of the stats to get into honors, btw?

@uptonoliver Are you sure they’re sending it out to those with the highest stats first? Because I got a relatively high sat scores (2300+) and have a pretty high rank, but still haven’t gotten a letter. (I’m calling to confirm today, and I’ll let you guys know if I get a response).

Also, just curious, do they consider race for the honors program?

@uptonoliver,

Very useful information. Thanks

@FlyingWombat‌ I believe it is according to your AI (Academic Index) that UT has for you. They use a regression based on their freshman statistics to judge an expected GPA for your freshman year of college. I know this system is used for admissions decisions but I do not know about honors. Just using inference for this segment of the process. Actually the EHP page says they’re procsssed in the order in which we were accepted to Cockrell.

Basically if you’re still in review, you really are still in review.

@uptonoliver,

Academic index was calculated with just Math and Writing(ACT I do not remember) portion of SAT along with class rank. I was thinking they might use the same index used for admission for honors. They might probably see other ECs in addition. It is unlikely in my opinion that they will have totally different criteria for admission and honors.

@midclassdad‌ my thoughts exactly. Well the letters they mailed out on Tuesday should start coming in today and tomorrow!

@uptonoliver,

How soon they update mystatus? Any ideas? My son’s still show the status that they are reviewing it.

Same here. And nothing in mail today . . .

@midclassdad‌ They update myStatus after they know people received their letters. Guessing they want a bit of surprise to play in.

@goincrazy nothing to worry about probably give it a bit of time

Any updates on this? I still haven’t heard anything back and MyStatus still says in review. I’m not expecting much considering I have a 33 ACT (while others here have 35/36) and I didn’t submit any subject tests but I’d just like to know by now.

@nofate not yet, but UT has been pretty slow as far as getting snail mail sent out (they didn’t even mail my acceptance letter until March 3rd) so I believe we all get to play the waiting game a little while longer. At the end of the week all decisions should be made and posted.

How do we accept our offer?

My Status honors tab has been updated. “We are not able to offer you admission to Engineering Honors.” Have yours been updated, or still in review?

@goincrazy I’m sorry to hear that. Not much to fret about anyway because EHP is not influential on your career. You still have chances for money from the school as well.

MyStatus for me still shows ‘In Review’. Can anyone else chime in?

My son’s status now says the “We are not able to offer you admission to Engineering Honors”. No snail mail. Conversely, his Plan II status says “in review” even though he got his rejection letter last week. In a way, it’s a good thing. All of his "yes"s and "no"s are on the table and he can make a final decision.

@FutureOIlBaron There should be instructions in the letter you received. I don’t have mine on me so I can’t be much help…

Update: I was rejected on MyStatus. Damnit, financial aid is a determining factor between schools and this is making it more difficult…

My son did not get Honors Engineering. Now status is reflecting this information.
