Also what is the ECE program at UT Austin? It looks interesting, but it looks like a graduate program.

I am a rising senior (Class of 2017)

It will be difficult to get into Cockrell if your rank is 12.5%. It will be iffy whether you get into UT, period.

Being out of the top 7% of your class, Cockrell at UT will be a reach and highly unlikely. Students for fall 2016 with stellar credentials, national merit commended, in top 8%, were rejected and offered wait list, CAP, and Pace with only guarantee of major in liberal arts.

TAMU is a different story. With a 30, you’re an auto admit to the university if you have a 27 in CR and Math. You won’t be automatically admitted to a major. Tamu goes to holistic review for all engineering candidates.

If you are admitted to engineering, you will be placed in general engineering and can apply to the major you want after freshman year and your GPA has a lot to do with what you qualify to ply to.

You are an automatic academic admit at TAMU but you will undergo review to get into engineering. Your 36 math should get you into engineering.

Agree with the other posters that your UT chances are not good based on your rank.

I agree, CS and Engineering are basically the 2 most competitive majors at UT, and your rank won’t help. If you really want to go to UT, you might want to apply to another major in CNS like physics if you’re interested, or any major for that matter, although internal transfer into Cockrell is pretty difficult too. I’m also applying to UT this year, good luck!

Your rank and your UW GPA are too low for Cockrell
